Facebook’s Supreme Court: Why Facebook Created The Content ‘Oversight Board’ – TLDR News

Published

Bill Gates and COVID: https://youtu.be/b-nYEOp7BRA

In an attempt to placate governments, free speech advocates, and users Facebook has recently set up the Facebook Oversight Board. This board has been repeatedly referred to as Facebook’s own Supreme Court whose role it is to judge what should and shouldn’t be allowed to appear on the site. In this video, we explain how it works and why Facebook would even want to set up such an institution.

Dude facebook's algorithm literally gave me a strike from joking with a childhood Mexican friend of mine for many years by saying "Tu eres 100% real puto"… Then they restricted me because of a typo ("ate" accidentally became "are" while typing) when someone was complaining about animal abuse… I said "Umm… but you probably are a pig or cow in the last couple hours" — FB appeals process just "confirmed" I violated their policy, and didn't ask me any questions at all. I am now banned for 3 days.

This is enough reason to ban facebook. If your AI algorithm is too stupid to understand friendly banter AND obvious typos, then you need to stop implementing the AI government. Fuck these people. I was moderate for most of my life but I only see this type of shit coming from followers of liberal ideology. I need to make as much distance from these companies as possible. I would suggest using apps like LINE and Mixi for personal life communications, and leave FB for news… I mean propaganda updates and prying other friends/users off of the platform by inviting them elsewhere.

This board is a joke, they don’t review nothing. Take away section 230 and watch what happens. It’s bullying and abusing it’s profile holders period.

They use algorithms to scan every comment you make, even on private groups. Just made a comment on a twisted humor private group and they labeled it hatespeech and deleted it. It's extremely Orwellian.

Hello, you bring up some great points. I was unaware that the United States has the authority to roll back mergers in some cases. You also illustrated a great point; just how powerful the giant tech companies are. As you mentioned, they had a great influence on the United States election. I hope to see some legislation passed to help curtail events like this in the future.

I was also unaware of Facebook’s power structure. It is scary to think one person can make huge decisions that affect billions of people with very little oversight.

The problem remains that the CEO can stack the oversight group with people homeless takes his views and possibly still pressure it. The way this can work out is it will either help or make things worse.

The assumptions Zuck is good and kind today and will continue to be so in the future is the fallacy in this argument. Remove Zuck, the origin of this problem, and break up Facebook. Both are necessary. Do them in any order.

Just break it up, what possible good for humanity could there be for Facebook remaining as powerful as they are? Corporate boards deciding free speech sounds like a fucking dystopic nightmare

  22. @lovelife655

    January 5, 2024 at 8:06 pm

I don't think that Mark Z is personally spending his time deciding what is censored and what is not, there are entire teams within FB who work on that specific issue. Your video is misleading. There are also content policies and guidelines which have been well-developed by advisors which regulate what can and can't be taken down, the purpose of the board is to review some of those decisions if they have been appealed by the poster. The decision of the board will be final and binding, however, the board does not have the power to influence Facebook's policies which ultimately sets the guidelines on content decisions. This video is a bit lazy.

    January 5, 2024 at 8:06 pm

I trust Facebook FAR more than the US government and I'm not kidding. The less the capitalistic, right-wing (both democrats and republicans), war machine is involved the better.
