Coronavirus in Russia: ‘I don’t trust Putin any more’ – BBC News

In Russia, President Putin’s approval rating has fallen to an all-time low.

Russia, like many countries, is suffering acute economic hardship after weeks of coronavirus lockdown.

Amid rising unemployment, there are signs of growing disillusionment with the Kremlin. Our correspondent Steve Rosenberg has been to Vladimir Putin’s home city of St Petersburg to gauge the mood.

Meta’s $1 trillion lawsuit could change Instagram and Facebook forever | BBC News

Thirty US states are suing Meta for over $1 trillion, accusing it of knowingly designing Instagram and Facebook to be addictive and harmful to children, while concealing what it knew.

If they win, it could force Meta to overhaul the platforms for good, ending features like “like” counts, infinite scroll and autoplay video.

Colombia earthquake death toll rises above 220 | BBC News

At least 224 people are dead and a state of emergency has been declared after Colombia was hit by one of its largest earthquakes in years.

The death toll is likely to rise, with more feared trapped under collapsed buildings.

The magnitude 7.4 quake struck at 07:34 (12:34 GMT) at a depth of 103km (64 miles) in Chocó province, the country’s geological service said. It was felt across an enormous area, stretching for hundreds of miles across western Colombia.

Many of the deaths have been concentrated in Cali, Colombia’s third most populous city.
