UK’s early Covid response was a failure, report says – BBC News

Published

on

The UK’s failure to do more to stop Covid spreading early in the pandemic was one of the worst ever public health failures, a report by MPs says.

The government’s approach – backed by its scientists – was to try to manage the situation and in effect achieve “herd immunity” by infection, it said.

This led to a delay in introducing the first lockdown which cost lives.

But the report said there had been successes too – in particular the vaccination programme, which was described as “one of the most effective initiatives in UK history”.

    Early response?

    F*ck off BBC.

Bbc wrote an article trying to discredit Dr Ashley Crofts epidemiology report for the Scottish covid inquiry.
BBC have blood on their hands for pushing non-scientific government BULLSHIT throughout the pandemic and even now.

    Early response my arsefluff.

Bbc bosses, "journalists", reporters and show hosts should be publicly flogged and imprisoned for their role in maintaining the governments FALSE narrative and deliberate fear mongering.

Close the pubs and clubs again. First lockdown worked out. Many started to come back home 🧠 The brains of 80% of population can be fixed. Trust omniscience 🌌

If they'd had just started using ivermectin and hydroxychloroquin and stop relying solely on a questionable vaccine . You could have saved thousands. The pandemic would have been over last year. I think they are more interested in controlling than saving lives.

It's easy to be wise after the fact but the whole world was at sixes and sevens, from Brazil to the USA, from France to China. We not only come up with two vaccines, drew in retired health workers and armed services, whilst fighting to keep on track the EU, and keep the country on track with people off the dole. Talk about a society that must have some one to blame,~ BBC you are unfair whoever is in office could not keep all these balls in the air, it's high time some bias media repented and backed the Government in times of trouble not que up to back stab it.

    January 4, 2024 at 5:01 pm

No sh*t. Is this seriously news now? At the peek, deaths were proportionally more than in the USA. I sincerely hope that the government will be investigated for criminal negligence.

Really? Who would've ever thought that having a leader wanting to be the "superman of capitalism" by keeping everything open, allowing flights in from hot spots all over the world until July that year, confining COVID testing to symptomatic patients in hospitals only for the first few months of the pandemic, allowing elderly patients to be discharged from hospital back into care homes without a negative swab, and generally having a herd immunity mentality thus allowing it to spread through the population killing thousands would have been deemed a failure. I'm honestly so shocked 🙄

  22. @davewasea

Lockdowns haven’t done any good what so ever. I would imagine if Covid 19 was never mentioned in the news everyone would of just thought they had the flu.

Propaganda to get you to accept what they're doing and worse in the future. There was a massive overreaction, there should have been no lockdown at all.

    January 4, 2024 at 5:01 pm

And where was the investigative journalism of the BBC throughout this time? Oh yes, they only ever just reported on their narrative of the story. They didn't trouble themselves to look at the published data from the around the western world and as the most basic of questions when they had the exclusive opportunity to do so. They've failed our nation more than the so called experts have.

so there way to fix this is by locking us down again that didnt work the NHS is also to blame and is still to blame the NHS doesnt need more money they have enough but waste it in a very big way giving them self thousands of pound money that could have saved lives but na the NHS will spend this money and letting thousands in people should now sue the gorvnment its not like they can deny murdering thousands mat hancock should be serving a life sentance for his crimes against humanety and so should boris who is not far behind biden when it comes to having a back bone and putting his country first the future with biden and boris is dim both none leaders both follow rules made by the very rich and instead of doing the right thing they have sold us out for the marxist take over called the great reset..

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
