July set to be world’s warmest month on record in an ‘era of boiling’, says UN – BBC News
Amid blistering heatwaves, July is “virtually certain” to be the world’s warmest month on record, say scientists.
So hot has the month been to date that researchers are confident the 2019 record will be broken, even with several days to go.
UN chief Antonio Guterres said the planet is entering an “era of global boiling”.
Scientists agree the extra heat is mainly linked to fossil fuel use.

How prosthetics tech is training robots | BBC News
Tech Now’s Paul Carter finds out how technology powering advanced prosthetics is also helping train humanoid robots.
The Ability Hand is a special piece of prosthetics technology, with two ambitions running through the same piece of hardware.
One is to give somebody their grip back. The other is to take what that person’s hand already knows – and teach it to a machine.

Signal boss Meredith Whittaker says AI ‘can always be controlled’ | BBC News
AI can always be controlled, the president of encrypted messaging app Signal has told the BBC.
Meredith Whittaker said fears that AI could become conscious and take over were “not anchored in science and evidence”, warning instead about the dangers of using the technology in military decision-making.
The former Google employee said AI could “supercharge mistakes” and reflected on her role in opposing the company’s involvement in a US military drone surveillance project.
Speaking to the BBC Global Women, Whittaker also questioned who gets to shape the future of AI, criticised the concentration of power in Silicon Valley and explained why Signal would leave a country rather than compromise its users’ privacy.

Chinese AI tool told researchers how to make bioweapons | BBC News
Developer Moonshot is conducting an internal review after researchers were able to persuade two of its popular Kimi models to tell them how to make biological weapons and carry out assassinations.
Mindgard, which tests the security of AI systems, told the BBC it discovered in July that Kimi K2.6 and K3 Swarm could evade safety limits put in place by developers.
It arose during a process called “jailbreaking”, where researchers use a series of complex instructions to see if AI tools ignore guardrails – which Mindgard said should have stopped Kimi from discussing concerning topics.
Moonshot told the BBC it welcomed third-party input “as a key pillar for building better and safer AI”.

I challenge ANYONE, yes even PhDs, to point to a scientifically verifiable time period in human history, or even pre-human history, when the "climate" was completely stable and did not change for a millennium, a century, even a few decades. Give it your best shot. The climate on this planet is ALWAYS "changing" and has NEVER been completely stable for prolonged periods. And yet THAT false presumption is the standard against which today's climate alarmists measure today's climate. And THAT is the OPPOSITE of science.

https://youtu.be/xu5kgGnO-p0?list=PLS3XGZxi7cBWn9PfF4VKAr5UBlHF-D0sL&t=594 "… those who are most disproportionately affected by climate change. More often than not those are people of color here in the States. Those are indigenous brothers and sisters. It's Latinos. It's African-Americans. Who don't have access to the air conditioners." I guess never mind the 24.62 million whites living in poverty who also might not have air conditioners either? You know, it's this kind of garbage, the focus on identity politics, that's driving poor whites towards the Republican party and Trumpism. The left desperately needs to learn that its focus should be on *CLASS*, not race. When the poor, blue collar, white dude sweltering in his non-air conditioned trailer house, hears all about his "white privilege" ad nauseam, I'm not surprised he gets fed up and gravitates towards Trump or DeSantis. As Steve Bannon said: “The longer they talk about identity politics, I got ’em. I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.” Leave it to democrats to play right into the hands of the Republicans. What a bunch of oblivious morons.

15k years ago was a mini ice age, temps have very slowly been going up ever since and will continue to slowly go up for thousands of years, it's the natural cycle if the earth, fossil fuels make matters worse, ff one monster Volcano erupts the whole earth is plunged into darkness and unservivable cold so either way,
The heat will eventually be our demise. Those in submarines will survive much longer, till they run out if food. it's only going to get hotter, quickly move to the north or south pole, there will palm trees growing in Alaska some day, for a while.

Another artless piece of propaganda from the BBC. At the height of northern summer in July, of 176 countries in the Northern Hemisphere, only China and Albania have broken their national records, which is a little disappointing considering all the scary reporting. It's more what you would expect from a slowly warming world (~0.1°C per decade UAHv6 and NOAA-STARv5) which is of course what we're living in.
Heat waves have not been increasing in intensity or frequency in the United States. Data from NOAA's Climate Reference Network shows no sustained increase in daily high temperatures in the United States since 2005 when that network began. In recent decades in the United States, heat waves have been far less severe than they were in the 1930s. At that time Heatwaves were more than 6 times worse with greater frequency and covering a larger area than the last decade (EPA). The most severe heatwave year was 1936, and was about 13 times worse than current. This year only 4 US states have achieved higher temperatures than 1936. Many states in 1936 achieved temperatures 15° hotter than the present. The all-time high temperature records set in most states occurred in the first half of the twentieth century. So far in 2023 (upto 1st August, 2023) the percentage of US Historical Climatology Network Stations reaching or exceeding 95°F (35°C) is at a record low (1895-2023) of 51%. The record high was 1931 at 93%. The trend has been consistently downwards since that point. The climate crisis was 90 years ago. We missed it.
Then there's the breathless gibberish about Arizona. Phoenix was incorporated in 1881, NOAA only has continuous data from around 1940. So recorded history for Phoenix in this instance is about 80 years (not that long climatically) and the record for 1930s (when heatwaves were much worse) is mostly incomplete. Also Phoenix's population has expanded exponentially in that time from a few tens of thousands to a few million. This has dramatically increased the Urban Heat Island effect resulting in temperatures 10°F (5°C) higher during the day (Scientific American, 2019). This alone explains the record high temperatures.
As I'm sure everyone is aware, Phoenix is in the Sonoran desert, which is characterised by long summers and extremely high temperatures. And that's exactly what's happening. There's nothing unusual or unexpected here.
Climate change saved 555,103 lives in England and Wales between 2001 and 2020 (ONS, 2022). There are over 5 million excess deaths per annum globally due to abnormal temperatures from the 2000-2019 study led Prof. Guo of Monash University. It found that over 90% of excess deaths were caused by excess COLD rather than excess heat. This applied globally including in the hottest continent, Africa. So, in a world with increasingly mild temperatures, there will be less excess death. Warming is good not bad.
There is no objective observational evidence that we are living in a global climate crisis.
The UN's IPCC AR6, chapter 12 "Climate Change Information for Regional Impact and for Risk Assessment", section 12.5.2, table 12.12 confirms there is a lack of evidence or no signal that the following have changed:
Air Pollution Weather (temperature inversions),
Aridity,
Avalanche (snow),
Average precipitation,
Average Wind Speed,
Coastal Flood,
Agricultural drought,
Hydrological drought,
Erosion of Coastlines,
Fire Weather (hot and windy),
Flooding From Heavy Rain (pluvial floods),
Frost,
Hail,
Heavy Rain,
Heavy Snowfall and Ice Storms,
Landslides,
Marine Heatwaves,
Ocean Acidity,
Radiation at the Earth’s Surface,
River/Lake Floods,
Sand and Dust Storms,
Sea Level,
Severe Wind Storms,
Snow, Glacier, and Ice Sheets,
Tropical Cyclones.
There is no objective observational evidence that we are living through a global climate crisis. None.

Typical BBC bias. All that pushing of how many died due to heat, but no mention of the fact that ten times as many died of cold, and no mention of all the cold and snowfall records that have been broken this year.
A bit of history for everyone: in May 1972 Arctic specialist Bernt Balchen predicted that the Arctic would be ice-free by the year 2000. The self-declared "climate experts" have continued with predictions of an ice-free Arctic covering every year since. Every time a prediction was made the "deniers" said it wasn't going to happen. This year is the 24th year in a row that the self-declared "climate experts" have been wrong and the "deniers" have been right.
Why is it that the public believe those with a 100% failure rate and denigrate those with a 100% success rate?
The performance of the self-declared "climate experts" looks bad enough compared to the intelligent deniers, but it is worse than it looks, imagine that in 1999 a load of village idiots had been gathered together to make predictions of whether the Arctic would be ice free in each of the years from 2000. Obviously they can't make an intelligent decision so they have to use other methods; one tosses a coin with heads = ice free and tails = still icy, another cuts a well shuffled deck of cards with black = ice free and red = still icy, etc, etc. The village idiots would have been right half the time.
Think on that: "deniers" right 100% of the time, village idiots right 50% of the time, self-declared "climate experts" right 0% of the time. How is it that the self-declared "climate experts" do so badly compared with village idiots?
And this isn't the only failure by the self-declared "climate experts", the extinctionclock web-site lists the self-declared "climate experts" doomsday predictions in due-by date order with the earliest at the bottom with a due-by date of 50 years ago. So far 51 of the predictions have reached their due-by date and NONE of them came true by their due-by date, and NONE of them has come true since.
As with the Arctic ice, for every one of those 51 predictions the "deniers" said it wouldn't happen, and if the village idiots had tried they would have said yes to half and no to half, so again it would be "deniers" right 100% of the time, village idiots right 50% of the time, self-declared "climate experts" right 0% of the time.
