Exam board pulls BTEC results for half a million students – BBC News

Over half a million young people face a fresh round of anxiety and confusion over their exam grades tonight, as the exam board Pearson said it was pulling its BTec results on the eve of releasing them.

Pearson said it was a direct consequence of the government U-turn earlier this week over A Level and GCSE grades. It said that risked “unfairness in relation to what are now significantly higher outcomes.”

The company said would now work to bring BTec grades into line with A Levels and GCSEs. It means around 250,000 young people who received their A-Level equivalent BTEC results last week have had their grades withdrawn.

And hundreds of thousands more pupils who were expecting results imminently, along with GCSEs, won’t be getting get them. Pearson said that no grades will be lowered in their review.

    I had to miss my SATs and I didn't get a score now I'm worried for my CATs (the exam you take at the start of year 7 which set the pace for all of secondary school)

    If you find your results and get a low grade example 1 in maths or 2 in English don't worry is not your fault you can reset it on college etc, Is government fault

    At least the A level fiasco has been resolved with A*** for all and can now finally secure their university slots. Those that did BTEC meanwhile can do something like an apprenticeship/manual jobs/welfare benefits/'social media influencer' etc. Maybe at a low level university something like criminology, drama, music… might be available to do for £10,000+ tuition a year (interest of course)

    I am a BTEC student studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT and it is the 20th August and I still didn't receive any grades wheres students in my class got theirs. Its just not fair at all as Uni places are filling up quicker and quicker.

    In a Ofcom survey the BBC was the least impartial broadcaster, it was less impartial than Sky News, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, CNN, and Al Jazeera. Unfortunately the BBC are the only broadcaster that is meant to be impartial ?

    If you did A-levels in well-to-do areas you got your way with university admissions. If you did A-levels in less well-to-do areas you played second fiddle in terms of university admissions. And if you did BTECs you're bottom of the pile.

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.
