Sixty people from 30 countries join Michael Sandel in a digital studio at Harvard to discuss the philosophical issues underlying the world’s response to climate change. The developed world has caused climate change, belting out greenhouse gases as it became rich (at least, most people think so). But the developing world – huge and growing economies like India and China – is increasingly a big part of the problem. So who should pay to fix the mess? Is it fair to penalise the developing world as it strives to catch up? Is it acceptable that rich countries be allowed to buy credits, giving them permission to pollute? And is it time to re-think our material aspirations?

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

CO2 999600 molecules of air are not CO2. 400 molecules compressed into a cube are 1.7 micron and .000 000 04 inches per side, so small but deadly. CO2 stop breathing half as much, or yoga, aerobics, or intimate physical interactions YOU are killing the planet. But plants are happy to breathe it. Hysteria over CO2 brainfluenced.

From an inconvenient truth we learned that al gore's family were tobacco farmers. should tobacco farmers pay reparation or environment fees for selling tobacco and making so many people sick? What about that confederate? Are tobacco farmers guilty of selling tobacco to poor countries or are poor countries poor because they bought tobacco? You're full of it. You're trying to fight climate change on a foundation of crack rocks. how does weed fight climate change? You're 2 faced. Snuff F___er british. You're country is full of it. Who should pay for it for climate change? Of course the one who has high Carbon and industry produce in thier country. Those countries mostly hit by climate change are those suffered most but those countries who produced highly carbon level should pay for it for thier cause on climate change. False facade here. People here are being indoctrinated to believe that every industry, every person who is rich are bad. God gave man individual will. Capitalism has lifted people up to have higher standard of living than if we did not have any products or services on the market. Some may be convinced that it's better to have the centralized control of communism. Communism has never worked. Why would anyone think that just because someone works in govt, makes them all knowing, all powerful, all sympathetic to meet everyone's needs. That is absolutely false. Many people in govt simply do things for public consumption or create enough chaos in order to try & engineer govt solutions. In terms of the energy grid, people don't understand that this hidden scheme of income redistirubtion–which is what the climate argument is all about–always must keep polluters on the market in order for revenue to be generated. So the intent to destroy all pollution is false. It has to be in someone's back yard. So whose backyard are they most likely to situate themselves?

I'm really concerned with the latter part of this debate. If we hope to have any chance of uniting on this issue across the political spectrum cannot afford this discussion devolving into an anti-consumerism partisan issue. Let's focus on solving this urgent issue and not be opportunistic and latch onto it other issues we feel about.

A consumer driven economy without an effect on the planet wouldnt have an effect on anything given to us naturally. Therfore a consumer society would consider its effect on the environment and fix the issues before releasing the product to not even cause an effect in the first place. An example is if materials we use for packaging can be composted then we create a circular economy.
If the ac we used is powered from the sun and made from materials that are 100% recyclable also the production of it is energy efficient and the energy that is used is renewable then it becomes one with nature.
Therfore our consumption is neutral then we need to let people benifit from our development without monarty gain as the first thought.
Who knows if everything was thought of in this regard money wouldn't be spent on war or weapons as it would have a negative impact on others lives.
Money would be spent on creating endless natural supplies of all we could consume making what we consume benifit our planet and people on it.

Considering the west have relied on places like China to produce the products they've consumed then add in that effect. China's production has added to the west's impact at the west's request.
The fact is the west can afford to kill their reliance on all foesil fuels and more than likely profit from it, that profit should be used to share benefits with nations that can't afford their targets. Success should be measured on the effect we can have to help in others lives not just our own.

Whom ever benifits the most from global pollution ,like the 1 percenters, are the ones who should pay for the the change and the cleanup after all their the ones who have accumilated more wealth from this system that they have implemented than the rest of the 99% combined,Polluters should pay, and not the little guy, we have no say in how they build their products that they sell to the masses for huge profits exploiting the earths resources for their own benifit.

No One has to pay. Renewable is actually cheaper. oil had whole century to develop and isn't that good even after that much time. Non renewables have one attractive quality for businesses – control and what you control you can sel. it isn't cheap job creating and of course is super bad for environment. Money is representation of scientific potential in "rich" countries so only they have power to develop renewable power now and fast because time is running out. Good example is germany they are doing quite well and it gives them even more prosperity.

we should be making it easier instead of more difficult, for the rest of the world to advance without repeating our mistakes, and yes, we have a responsibility to clean up the mess we are causing other people to suffer as a result of. the technologies exist to advance without oil and coal, or even nuclear. they're here now. they're not even brand new. they just don't lend themselves to centralized monopolistic greed. and that's what we have to choose between, because eco-pocalypse is the price we have to pay if we don't. (i'm in the u.s., which is almost certainly a much bigger offender then the u.k.)

I believe it is ethical to implement a system where we pay for CO2-emmissions. This is because if we do not implement it (for keeping a relationship of awe and love) we do not change the current development and ruthless people are going to keep polluting for personal gain.
Additionaly this system does not abolish voluntary contributions.
We need to do something, we already have a mass extinction.
Also if we make people pay for CO2-emmissions, shouldn't we also support projects that absorb CO2?
