I honestly don’t think so. The smartphone replaced so many things that were all carried with you (a basic phone, PDA, camera, etc) and did even more. I think having a pocket friendly sized device with enough room for advanced cameras and batteries (just using those as examples since the glasses would really be able to fit those) would always have merit. Especially for the times you don’t want to wear the glasses. Physical touch based interaction maybe also work better for somethings (like discreetly communicating with someone). And now more people are using their phones to pay for things (you can’t do that with glasses) or video chat. Maybe you could fit a decent camera into one, but you could never actually video chat with glasses alone. I think the glasses will compliment the phone; much like the watch. I believe people thought the smart watch would replace the phone too.

Personally I find the very idea of these utterly appalling. They also appear to offer even more isolation than ever, smartphones create less real physical human interaction and these appear to be very isolating indeed 😕

It’s a worry that teachers seem to embrace any new technology, or are forced into teaching government policies like homosexuality, trans and all other sorts of new age crap, when they should be aiding children to develop balance and self identity and offering a place to enjoy childhood.

when cash is gotten rid of and the owners of electronic transfer patents have even more profits from their hidden tax on every transaction they will eventually make people dependent on electronic systems and thus have the power to insist on your buying what they tell you to.The pressure to use particular electronic systems to buy, participate, or even deal with certain bureaucracies already exists.

So a large percentage of the population could walking about with internet enabled cameras and microphones stuck to their faces. Link in with facial recognition and we have the most effective police state and surveillance system. Just look at how police have been taping into 'smart' doorbells. Normalising these technologies without highlighting the risks is an attack on all of us and, so surely, the BBC can only be seen as an enemy of the people?

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

on

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
