‘Monsoon on Steroids’: Investigating Pakistan’s unprecedented floods – BBC Newsnight
With over a 1,000 people dead, 33 million people displaced, and a third of the country underwater, the recent flooding in Pakistan is being described as a “humanitarian disaster of epic proportions” by the country’s Climate Change Minister.
Millions of people’s livelihoods have been washed away, and this year there has been a 400% increase in monsoon rains. So, is South Asia now the epicentre of a crisis in our climate?
Pakistan emits 0.3% of global CO2 emissions, so should Western countries responsible for a much larger share pay for the loss and damage?

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Torrential monsoon rains have triggered the most severe flooding in Pakistan’s recent history, washing away villages and leaving more than three million children in need of humanitarian assistance and at increased risk of waterborne diseases, drowning and malnutrition.
More than 1,500 people, including around 500 children, ( approximately)…have lost their lives. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed, while many public health facilities, water systems and schools have been destroyed or damaged.
UNICEF is responding with the Government and partners, helping to deliver safe drinking water; lifesaving medical supplies; therapeutic food supplies; and hygiene kits to children and families. We are also establishing temporary learning centres and supporting the protection and psychosocial well-being of children affected by these devastating floods.
But much more is needed to ensure we can reach all families displaced by floods and help them overcome this climate disaster.
We need your urgent support to help save lives. Appeal to Overseas Pakistani, Brothers and Sisters…PLEASE HELP,..👏🤲🤝🙏✍

Hi, Thanks for your time for broadcasting this terrible current Flood Disaster situation of Pakistan, The most devastating flooding in decades has left one-third of Pakistan under water and affected at least 33 million people. Entire villages are submerged, roads, bridges and railway lines have been washed away, and farmlands and crops have been destroyed.
Displaced Pakistanis need food and water, and the threat of water-borne diseases is growing. This disaster Counting the Cost is difficult, we look at the consequences of the floods on Pakistan's economy, as we think that almost it will 10 years for rebuilding of roads, people safe shelters away from flooded marked areas. May Allah Bless us all with his Kindness (Ameen).

Climate change is here to stay. The only thing we can do now is try and clean things up and stop population growth. Too many people just keeps adding to the problem. Either we limit population growth reasonably or mother nature deals with us.
