US government shutdown: Republicans scramble for last-minute deal – BBC News

Published

on

The US moved closer to a government shutdown on Thursday, with House Republicans braced to oppose a last-minute proposal forming in the Senate.

Congress faces a deadline of midnight on Saturday to pass a new budget, before thousands of federal employees are placed on unpaid leave.

The Senate has forged ahead with plans for a temporary funding agreement – which House Republicans will oppose.

    Peace.
There are factors on a larger scale that seem beyond my reach. How I apply this in my life. Give generous tips for my food when ever possible. Also, be sure that any money spend internationally is transfered into local currency before making my purchase. May God recommends any loses. Devaluating and replacing currency used in fraulant transactions. Being sure our strive is for international peace. Stopping corruption in its tracks. Fortifying the quality of life we are all working. In the name of The Lord for everything. God Bless.

What is “crime of preparation for terrorism, etc.”? If (1) an organized criminal group (2) plans a serious crime and (3) takes preparatory acts to carry out the plan, it falls under the crime of "preparing for terrorism, etc." This makes it possible to arrest criminals before they are actually committed, and prevent damage from occurring.

Government shutdown should not be used as a political tool.
By either party why are we just addressing this now seriously?

Most shameful irresponsible 'superpower' borrowing more money for 45 day budget extension. Refusing to do their jobs to enact a proper annual budget. Guaranteed in a month they'll repeat this same sad act, as they have become accustomed to. It is beyond pitiful and should be illegal for them to collect pay for work they are not performing, dereliction of duty.

What are the Democrats doing. All they ever want to do is spend more and tax more. Never enough. TERM LIMITS NOW. NO PENSION. Cut federal employees 10% a year and increase productivity. Run it like a business. What a disgrace. They are all compromised at some level just a fact.

All Americans are asking is to Close Our Borders.
    Take A Look:
Last year, in 2022, improper and mistaken federal payments totaled $247 billion. That’s about $20.5 billion per month, or more than $675 million every, single day.
What exactly is an improper payment? Federal law defines the term as “payments made by the government to the wrong person, in the wrong amount, or for the wrong reason.”
In other words, a corner grocery store has better accounting controls than our $6.82 trillion U.S. federal government had in 2021.

Six months into the US-Israel war with Iran, can anyone win? | BBC News

Published

on

Six months after the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran, the conflict shows no sign of coming to an end.

As Washington turns its focus to economic pressure, Tehran remains defiant – with the Strait of Hormuz seen as key leverage.

The uncertainty keeps economies and markets volatile, pushing up prices around the world and straining international relations.

A conflict that US President Donald Trump said would last a few weeks has now lasted half a year, so where do we go from here and when might the war end?

Tiny Scottish town opens arms to Ukrainian refugees – BBC News

Published

on

It’s nearly eight weeks since Russia invaded Ukraine, forcing about four million people to flee their homes.

So far only 12,000 of them have reached the UK – and that’s partly down to delays in granting visas.

Residents in the town of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, Scotland, say they are making it their mission to welcome as many Ukrainians as possible.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has apologised for the “frustrating” visa delays which have prevented thousands of Ukrainian refugees entering the UK.
