‘An absolute shocker’ – Simon Hooper’s ‘monster mistake’ against Manchester City | BBC Sport
Match of the Day 2’s Mark Chapman, Jermaine Jenas and Leon Osman discuss the “monster mistake” made by referee Simon Hooper during Manchester City’s 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Jack Grealish could have potentially scored the winner for Pep Guardiola and his side if Simon Hooper played advantage during an attack. Erling Haaland and the rest of the Man City squad were not pleased…

Verstappen DOMINANT as Antonelli extends title lead 🏎️ How the Bahrain GP in Malaysia unfolded!
Max Verstappen never looked back from pole position to win the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, securing his first victory of 2026.
Harry Benjamin, former Formula E driver Sam Bird and the BBC’s F1 correspondent Andrew Benson analyse how the Red Bull driver did it.
They also unpick a chaotic start to the race which was initially delayed by a tropical downpour, before a software issue affected most of the grid on the formation lap and caused another delay.
Plus, with George Russell being forced to retire, is it now only a matter of time before Kimi Antonelli secures his first world title? And how did Lewis Hamilton fight back to the podium after a miserable first few laps which saw him slip way down the field?

Are we ever going to get an explanation from simon Hooper ? Up until now I have only heard about how "gutted" he is about making the error, but still no explanation of why he did it. I have heard Howard Webb trying to defend him on Sky TV by saying that it was an error and Hooper is sorry and gutted about it, but personally I'm not bothered about any of that and it is completely worthless. What everybody is waiting for is an honest explanation of his decision making from Hooper himself.. not from a third party like Webb.

😮that was not a mistake….his body language showed clear he allowed the game to continue by even pointing go on…..but when he saw Grealish was one on one with goal keeper, he then stop the chance deliberately…..this was purely intentional with evil thinking.

I never like when comms try to lick the ass to situation. No directional honest thoughts but only trying to smooth the angles.

There was nothing wrong with the referrees decision. time was up and he blew the whistle. It does not mean if he allows play on time is not up. This is not about play on, this about time is up. The referees job is to blow the whistle when time is up. Play on is not an excuse. If city scored a goal after time was up they were going to grill the referee. So good referring.

So Man City are held to book for their players crowding and verbally abusing the referee, if that's so surly Erling should have been booked red or yellow as he was the real guilty party, as we all know referee make mistakes, nobody is perfect. R.

Don’t throw blame on Simon Hooper. He took the right decision to call a foul when Erling Haaland went for a dive. That is why Erling Haaland got booked yellow card. Last one it was an even fall as well because the striker also went for a dive again. Therefore no penalty for Man City. So, instead of barking like dogs and crying like baby, just kindly accept defeat and maybe next time you may win. Thank you Tottenham for saving Arsenal, and helping Arsenal remain on top of the Table. COYG. ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍😜😜😜😜😜😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

He realised that grealish is a cart horse and would get chased down by all three players around him, no advantage there. Why isn't Haaland getting punished for his behaviour?

They missed scoring all day what makes everyone think they were going to score. He was still a way from goal and was being closed down. Yes it was a mistake. Get over it. Why don’t we talk about Citys missed chances instead. Thats where they lost the game.
