Amsterdam launches stay away ad campaign targeting young British men – BBC News

Published

on

A digital discouragement campaign targeting young British men is being pushed out by the Dutch city’s council.

It comes as part of efforts to clean up Amsterdam’s raunchy reputation as Europe’s most liberal party capital.

The online ads, highlighting the risks associated with the excessive use of drugs and booze, show young men staggering in the street handcuffed by police, finger-printed and having their mugshots taken.

I have been to Amsterdam a few times not for sex or too get pissed or even smoke a joint. To see Amsterdam for what it is a beautiful place. But they have been happy to take the money for all the hookers drugs and booze so they really can’t blame anyone else but themselves

I definitely agree that there is a portion of young British men who go over there and make fools of themselves which then tars all men of that age with the same brush which I hate. The sad truth of the matter is that the types of individuals who are perpetrating these acts won't care and will carry on doing them while other genuine tourists who want to experience the real Amsterdam are going to be judged and glared at wherever they go.
I also don't agree that they have used that blokes face in their ads that's now being plastered all over the news and the internet, he probably did some stupid things and should be dealt with as such but showing his face everywhere, is that really necessary?

Yep that's it then other countries then they will ban families. It's all about control. Limiting air flights for us, ulez, electric cars, Covid rubbish.
I said in 2015 about all this to my friends and family. I said they would limit our freedoms to just being able to go to work and home and that other things would follow.
Prices of bills going up. Keeping people down and limiting freedoms. We was always going to leave the eu even if remain had of won they would say leave won.
It's all about limiting our freedoms while allowing mass immigration.
    They have bigger plans yet.

As a Brit who detests the lad culture in our country and dreams of moving abroad, I fully support this movement. I don’t want them in my country either! It’s a shame there’s very little pride or dignity left in our culture, the UK could be such a great country otherwise. I’m sick of these parasites that litter our streets nowadays, can’t seem to go anywhere without having to be ready to defend yourself.

If governments were keen to stop budget airlines charging so litle, they would do it right now, but they don't for financial reasons more than ever post-pandemic in order to balance covid losses. Instead governments invite and promote their nations conscient of the drawbacks resulting from that.

Is quite a grey area taking though actions when turism means a very considerable source of income.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
