Vladimir Putin breaks silence over plane crash Russia claims ‘killed’ Wagner’s Prigozhin – BBC News

Published

on

Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences to the families of those who were reportedly killed in a plane crash, including Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.

In a televised speech, Putin called Prigozhin a “talented businessman”, who “made serious mistakes in life”, in an apparent reference to the group’s rebellion earlier this year.

It is currently unclear what caused the plane to crash – killing all 10 people aboard – though UK defence sources told the BBC that Russia’s FSB intelligence agency is most likely to be responsible.

Putin said investigators will look into what happened – but that this will take time.

It's much worse that those who are in trouble are those who believed in the United States, NATO and, most importantly, England! Ukraine was just cannon fodder!

I don't believe a word he has said, Putin needs the Wagner Group and if Prigozhin was deceased the group would unravel. Yes, he is probably in exile but alive and well. Moscow has indicated that Prigozhin's son is taking over the Wagner group. Do you believe that the son would be cooperating with the person that killed his father? It sounds more factible that he would serve as an intermediary for his father. There are already reports surfacing that Prigozhin may have been spotted in the Caribbean.

Ukrainian Nazis and English mercenaries and other nationalities continue to stake out positions underground! There is no point in media supported by dollar fraud wanting to mention children removed from Donbas who had their parents killed by Ukrainian Nazis at the behest of England and the United States for 9 years, today they are safe in Russian territory. Later these children will return to the Donbass of their parents.
Russian forces eliminate American systems and more than 200 Ukrainian military personnel.

The politics behind the French riots | BBC Newscast

Published

on

Today, French cities have been given the power to implement partial curfews after violence across France over the weekend.

Hundreds of thousands of people turned out for protests against falling education standards and the rising cost of living.

There were outbreaks of rioting, looting, and arson, after weeks of student-led rallies across the country.

Adam is joined by the Financial Times’ Paris bureau chief, Leila Abboud, and Politico’s chief Europe correspondent, Marion Solletty, to discuss the situation on the ground, and how the government might respond just six months before the French presidential election.

Could this Canadian province really become its own country? | BBC News

Published

on

People in the province of Alberta will vote on 19 October on whether they want to start the process of separating from the rest of Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called the upcoming referendum a “dangerous bluff”, comparing it to the Brexit vote that saw the UK leave the European Union.

But supporters of Albertan independence believe that the oil-rich province has long been overlooked by decision-makers in Ottawa, the national capital, and that federal environmental policies have hindered its ability to develop its natural resources.

So, could Alberta really become its own country?

The BBC’s Nadine Yousif takes us on a journey through Alberta to talk to both supporters and opponents of separation about their hopes for the country’s future.

Why are students protesting in France? | BBC News

Published

on

Tens of thousands of people are demonstrating across France, in protest at what they say is under-investment in high schools.

Some protests over the past week in France have turned violent, as protesters and authorities clashed.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said: “Burning down a high school does not improve the state of high school buildings. Lynching a teacher does not help replace teachers”, adding it is a “lie” to suggest the government had ordered “police repression” against demonstrators.

Our correspondents report from the scene of the protests. In this video…
