Hamas says it is seeking to extend truce with Israel | BBC News
Hamas has said it is seeking to extend the current four-day pause in fighting with Israel and increase the number of hostages released.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the original agreement could be extended – but Israeli operations in Gaza would resume with full force after the truce period.
There are reports that truce extension talks are now under way, with Egyptian and Qatari mediation.

Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma says the gaming giant needs to be “thinking about” affordability for its next-generation console, amid a “crisis” in computing prices.
Speaking exclusively to the BBC’s Laura Cress at Gamescom in Cologne, she said rising hardware costs partly driven by AI spending mean firms need to find ways to make gaming affordable.
She also revealed gamers will soon be able to get digital versions of many of the physical games they currently own, potentially meaning their old games can be played on future Xbox consoles without having to put a disc in a drive.

A 23-year-old Utah man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk – as a judge ruled prosecutors can seek the death penalty at trial.
Tyler Robinson denies aggravated murder, a capital offence in Utah, and six other charges in connection with the shooting of Kirk at a campus event on 10 September 2025.
Defence lawyers had tried to have the death penalty taken off the table, but prosecutors argued that aggravating factors, such as firing into a crowd in the presence of children, warranted a capital trial.
Turning Point USA co-founder Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Apple has renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America on its Maps app, after an order from US President Donald Trump.
It’s all part of Washington’s trade row with Canada.
The change was made for US-based users – those in Canada will continue to see Lake Ontario displayed. The BBC has contacted Apple for comment.

This cease fire deal is absolute nonsense.
Hamas should have been left with no aid deliveries, and continuous bombardments.
Agreeing to cease fire just for hostages while hamas and its supporters gain in return free flow of aid, freeing offenders in Israeli jails,etc. The deal is bad.
Israelis should know that pushing for ceasefire for hostage releases will only give hamas more legitimacy and support.
This is awful.

I thought there's no food in Gaza, how are markets already open with fresh produce? No one sends heavy low calorie foods like fruits and vegetables as aid to a war zone, let alone sell it in markets, it's clearly not from the aid.

Hamas standard tactic is to perform terrorist attacks(yes BBC, they are terrorists, not just "classed as a terrorist organisation by some governments" or whatever line you're using today), hide amongst civilians, then when they run out of ammunition and Israel is closing in on them to plead for a ceasefire. A ceasefire that they later break when they've re-armed themselves again.
