You can take away my citizenship, then I'll nip over to France, come back on a rubber dinghy and take every handout going. Great!

You have murders on less sentences than what's being proposed as punishment in this bill. The law and order is taking an odd turn..

Omitting "for gain" part makes me think that rescuing them from drowning is potentially punishable, that's awfully inhumane

There is no question on Begum's case that she should not be allowed back to the UK, not much difference from a spy chooses to work for a hostile state at war. Worse still she was prepared to give birth and bring up children to die for the hostile state. This is a really bad example to make your case.

Surely dual citizens loyal to this country can easily avoid these problems simply by renouncing their allegiance to the foreign power? Of course it would also help to obey our laws so there's no cause for deprivation of citizenship.

As with most things that governments try to do (I know, I speak as a former Whitehall Civil Servant) this bill is a clumsily planned mess. However, I have to sympathise with the government's aims. The situation with illegal immigrants swarming over the Channel in unsuitable boats from a safe country like France to claim the right to live here is absurd, especially as many bring with them the habits, cultures and religion that made their home countries such dangerous places in the first place.

And this video is leaving out key parts of the truth in simply saying that Shamima Begum ran away to join ISIS aged 15 but has since denounced them.

She was still an ISIS supporter, married to one of its fighters, after she became an adult and had literally seen a basket of severed heads of people they had executed and was aware that they held Yazidi women literally as slaves, used for sex. She knew very well by then what ISIS were like. Even after ISIS was defeated and she was captured, Shamima Begum initially insisted that the ISIS inspired mass murder of predominantly teenaged girls at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester was justified.

Only once it was clear that ISIS could not help her did Shamina B start saying she did not support them after all and could she come back to Britain, please?

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Was not aware that there had been an update on the laws. This makes it extremely explicit? AND…. that… those who "processes" fake immigration records, and does not under the British laws, but sells visas or opportunities that the individual could be in the UK, is going to be prosecuted from this as well. Just as I thought…. Well, this is going to help those overseas students then. Especially the ones that do not qualify to be here as well. This adds to THEIR position. No wonder China locked down and threw away the key basically.

What is worrisome is how easy it is to become a British citizen. Look at London 60% of foreign decedents.

Most asylum seekers are surrounded by Rich countries, even with oil…but is never offered assistance to stay for citizenship like TURKEY,SAUDI, BHARAIN,QATAR, OMAN,KUWAIT …ETC. They see to it that they should reach EUROPE OR LONDON, PARIS ETC

  24. @IongliveIsrael

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Very good bill, it should be applied decades ago. Britain is for British people. You should not have been here from the first place. Stop destroying our culture in the name of your far left political correct ideology. We are so tired of you’ll. Go to muslims countries with your common culture, NOT HERE, let’s see how they will welcome you… Europe is beginning to awaken from its “humanistic innocence”.

  25. @KrisRyanStallard

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Deprivation of citizenship is a dangerous idea. I'm not usually a fan of slippery slope arguments, but even the possibility of of creating a situation where a government could remove "undesirables" or political opponents can't be allowed.

  26. @ems7623

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Honestly, if you are outraging the UN, you're doing something wrong.

  27. @ems7623

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

Taking away citizenship is something that, historically, only the worst authoritarian regimes and police states have done. The fact that this is even being considered in the UK should cause a great deal of concern.

In extreme cases of citizens who have done something like joining a foreign terrorist organization or, I don't know, sell nuclear secrets to enemy regimes, there are other, normal procedures that can be applied. These are situations that have always fallen, historically, under the legal category of "treason." If the UK no longer has treason laws that are working for its needs, then those are the laws that need to be revised.

It is good to see that at least on Tory MP is taking a stand against this.

  28. @DCFunBud

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

This law is a fundamental violation of due process: the right to notice and the right to be heard in a court of law.

  29. @ToneyCrimson

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

So basically "We dont want to take responsibility for our citizens who does bad things, so we will just make you not our citizen."
    This should worry everyone…

  30. @rollosinternet1853

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

    Despicable.

  31. @mastertrams

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

The only thing I could possibly agree with in this bill is breaking up the people trafficker gangs. Everything else, we should be getting really upset about. Maybe pay a few French citizens to help, after all, to quote my computer science teacher, they know how to have a good riot…

  32. @CatonaWall175

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

This has nothing to do with the U.N. as they do not represent the U.K. peoples' wishes. The U.N. have a globalist agenda and were opposed to Brexit so the U.N. should be completely ignored.

  33. @martinwilliams4759

The real issue here is the fact that a politician can do most of this stuff instead of a court.

  36. @swedishdissident3406

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

She should have thought about this before going. Have no sympathy for extremists. But I feel that it should only be done after a fair trial.

  37. @gusttavocardoso108

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

I am not certain how this will be done, but something has to be done! There are some parts of the UK where you don´t hear a word of English. These people who come to the country aren´t looking to integrate themselves into the English culture, but to create ghettos, small ballons of their country inside the UK. Often this leads to religious extremism, arranged marriage, female genital mutilation and so forth.
I am Brazilian and I do live in London, even between Brazilians there is some feeling of anti-English being born and cultivated as "their culture". Also, there are a few people here speaking that rich people are bad and working-class people are "the good ones". Now, who is discriminating and judging here? How can, the amount of money someone has in the bank, define character?

  38. @emdov

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

With so many Brits and their descendants scattered around the world, just imagine if host countries decide to retaliate in kind

  39. @MazzaEliLi7406

    December 25, 2023 at 2:12 pm

UN is right to be outraged. Will we see all those religious & charitable bodies, & those that offer financial support, & resident relatives of all the refugees, be subject to life imprisonment? Not only outrageous but unworkable. There are currently too few prisons to house the criminal element in the UK. Poverty will increase crime. Lack of border control will increase crime. The UK is a smugglers paradise. Fewer workers due to Pandemic & Brexit means fewer Taxpayers, less Tax revenue, fewer tradesmen to build more prisons – pause for breath – in short, the domino effect.
