It has been five years since the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan, as western forces left, imposing their extreme, ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam on millions of people.
Their return to power brought relative peace to the country after two decades of war.
But Afghan women have been erased from public life. Girls are banned from school from the age of 12, and aren’t allowed to go to university.
Public parks are also off limits to women – and they can’t travel abroad without a male companion.

China has warned there is a “high risk” that a lake which formed after the recent landslide near the Nepal-Tibet border may breach its banks, causing a second flood downstream.
The warning comes after Wednesday’s deadly flash flood in the same area which has killed more than 500.
Scientists say it was triggered by the collapse of a mountain glacier into a river.

Has anyone considered the possibility that this poor Muslim woman had been waiting all her life for an opportunity finally to rid herself of the oppressive hijab and all it symbolizes? Imagine that she had a dream of ripping the burdensome thing from her head, and going freely in public, breathing the fresh air of liberty for the first time. Here it was, her chance, her justification to her repressive community for defying stifling tradition. Just as she is about to achieve her dream along comes a woman who knows nothing about her, who patronizes her and assumes she is just another cookie cutter Muslim. "No, NO!.Stop at once! I insist that you put it back on. You must. For I, I will ride with you!" The Muslim woman retreats into her mobile prison, her vision evaporates. Another life is crushed under the heel of political correctness and Islam.

I would have had a lot more time for the I'll Ride With You thing if we for once could see that type of response from the Muslim community when there's another terror attack. I didn't see any Muslim campaigns following Charlie Hebdo that was speaking out for free speech.

If I was ever taken hostage or under siege and trapped by islamists id take every opportunity to tweet or tell everyone not to hashtage illridewithyou. Its pretty insulting to those people under threat. Insulting enough to see large numbers of people pledging support towards a so called backlash possibility while there are people under siege.
