Stairway to Heaven was one of the biggest rock songs of the 1970s – loved, imitated and sometimes parodied. Now Led Zeppelin’s classic track is back on the turntable, on a re-mastered version of the band’s fourth album. 43 years after its release, the song continues to hold a place in many music fans’ hearts.
Guitarist Jimmy Page gives a personal account of how a rock anthem came together.

Ex-gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis sentenced for orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s murder | BBC News
Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
The key evidence in the case were Davis’ own words, in which he repeatedly and publicly acknowledged being inside the white Cadillac from where the deadly shots were fired.
A jury found him guilty in September of one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Davis has said he will appeal the verdict.
His conviction was the first in a cold case that has intrigued hip-hop fans for nearly 30 years.

Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had surgery to remove a lower lobe of his right lung, the Vatican has said in a medical bulletin.
The 71-year-old underwent a 90 minute operation on Tuesday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma.
The lump was first detected during what the Vatican has described as “routine checks”.
Earlier, large crowds gathered outside the hospital to greet the Pope, with some waiting for several hours. They cheered greetings and well wishes as he passed, while he waved and smiled back through the lowered back window of his car.
He was then met by staff on the hospital steps. “I’m sorry,” one of them commiserated, to which the Pope gave a smile and a shrug. “We’re here for you,” he was assured.
In its statement, the Vatican said the whole lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung was removed “to ensure the procedure was radical”.
A Vatican source told Agence France-Presse news agency that further tests are being carried out to see if there was any sign the cancer had spread.
Leo XIV announced news of his operation to the world on Sunday, without at that time confirming that he was suffering from cancer. Speaking from the balcony in St Peter’s Square after delivering the traditional Angelus blessing, he said the nodule, or growth, on his lung was “contained” and had been found “at a very early stage”, but that doctors had advised him to have it removed.
Nodules are quite common and not necessarily cancerous, but after it was examined the medical team confirmed it was pulmonary adenocarcinoma, “as suspected by pre-operative tests”, the Vatican said. It said that the pontiff, who is generally thought to be fit, had no symptoms of infection or illness.

There are few pieces of music that can shift this old school R&B girl into a different genre. Led Zeppelin is the exception. While attending Boarding School for six years back in 1970 – 75, I was exposed to many different music types and styles. Hearing Led Zeppelin, blasting from my school mates record players and cassette players was my introduction and education into Rock. Only the best of the best. And this classic Historical Anthem will always be a catalyst for me. Back then, we didn’t refer to our neighborhood’s as “The Hood” they were simply our neighborhood’s. Those places we saw our parents leave for work every day, where we celebrated life from. Where I returned for holidays and vacations from school. Where I brought the music of school home to. Imagine Led Zeppelin ( in the hood) amongst the R&B legends. And to say Zeppelin was well received would be an understatement. Imagine seeing Led Zeppelin T shirts on AFRO wearing adolescents. Thank You Led Zeppelin for your incredible sound, artistry, and genius. ♥️🎶🎸🎤🎼🎵

Led Zeppelin's music is a music of shadows…there's an existential quirk in this song because you just can't buy the stairway to heaven…Jimmy's speaks of light and shade in their music, but I believed from the start that the spirit of blues great Robert Johnson always hovered over their music…. "Stairway to Heaven" makes us question why we are all here and the consequences of our choices…
