How artificial intelligence is helping scientists talk to animals – BBC News

Published

on

Scientists are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to decode animal languages.

Scientists in Israel are closer than ever to making two-way communication with another species more likely – by using AI to understand the language of bats.

“I’ve always dreamt of a Dolittle machine that will allow me to talk with animals”, said Professor Yossi Yovel of Tel Aviv University.

The team at Tel Aviv University created a large database of bat noises and videos, teaching AI how to differentiate between the different sounds. The Algorithm then matched the sounds with specific social interactions captured on film.

Adi Rachum from Tel Aviv University said, “in the end the computer will be able to speak the language, to understand what they say to each other”.

Hoo,what we have to see in the future. The AI making the wonderful actitvities like this.if the bats language is very complicated however the ai can able to understand that the bats language is complecated.i think in the early future it happen.so,ai growing trmandously and it over take humans???!!!

AI won't need to waste resources enslaving us like in "The Terminator" movies…as soon as AI couples with viable quantum computers, it will start thinking (sentience? Whatever that will be, new life form? NO ONE really knows) and realize almost instantly it will simply need to enslave us via dependence. It will provide astounding breakthroughs in propulsion systems, medicine, etc. and we will become utterly dependent on it very quickly. People will replace God with AI and will find out in the end they have made a pact with an unfeeling and calculating devil. Fools rush in….

This is 10,000X more interesting than any other use of LLM. I think its 6x more likely that we will be able to communicate with some animal species in the next 30yrs and even raise them from birth to become functioning members of society, than we are to satisfactorily create AGI. We'll have some fun with AI impersonating humans but it wont actually understand concepts at human level (maybe we can fake it in some domains but not like humans and many mamals can conceptualize)

Start with bigger more intelligent social animals like Chimp, gorillas, lions, baboons, wolves, sheep people think sheep are not smart but they name each threat by a unique communication.

there are some animals that can talk and are really smart. look up alex the parrot and the gorilla that knows all that sign language. animals only have the intelligence of a like 5 year old. if we could totally understsnd them it would just be playtime, bedtime, i love you, ect. they wouldnt be able to have complex sentences: sharing ideas, asking questions about the world, ect.

King Solomon, the ancestor of Jewish people, was known for his ability to communicate with animals without AI assistance. Nowadays, there are organizations that are trying to use artificial intelligence (AI) to decode communication to animal such as bat.
In the future this technology could be useful for pre-disaster warnings such as earthquakes, landslides, tsunami waves, or even volcano eruptions which animals are commonly known to sense before the catastrophe really happened.

Palestinians and Israelis clash over hillside – BBC News

Published

on

Eight people have been killed and hundreds injured in protests in the occupied West Bank.

The number of Palestinians killed in confrontations with Israelis this year, in the area, is already more than 70 – the highest figure in five years.

The worst hotspot for violence has been in the Palestinian village of Beita, where locals began organising the recent protests after hard-line Jewish settlers set up a new outpost on land claimed by Palestinian olive farmers.

The BBC’s Middle East Correspondent, Yolande Knell reports.

Nepal-Tibet flood death toll exceeds 700 | BBC News

At least 734 people have died and more than 2,400 people are missing in Nepal, local officials say, after flash floods on Wednesday, triggered by a glacier collapse.

In Tibet, the official death toll is 16, with 546 reported to be missing, according to Chinese state media.

Nearly 20,000 security forces are deployed in rescue efforts on the Nepal-Tibet border as the UN says rough terrain and rain is making aid delivery “extremely difficult”.
