Deadly rains batter Beijing as new storm approaches China – BBC News
At least 20 people have died in China as the country braces for its third typhoon in as many weeks.
The remnants of super storm Doksuri continue to flood capital Beijing, where 50,000 people have been evacuated, according to state media.
There is little relief with typhoon Khanun on the horizon.
This third storm is expected to enter the East China Sea on Wednesday before moving to China’s coastal provinces Zhejiang and Fujian.

Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had surgery to remove a lower lobe of his right lung, the Vatican has said in a medical bulletin.
The 71-year-old underwent a 90 minute operation on Tuesday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma.
The lump was first detected during what the Vatican has described as “routine checks”.
Earlier, large crowds gathered outside the hospital to greet the Pope, with some waiting for several hours. They cheered greetings and well wishes as he passed, while he waved and smiled back through the lowered back window of his car.
He was then met by staff on the hospital steps. “I’m sorry,” one of them commiserated, to which the Pope gave a smile and a shrug. “We’re here for you,” he was assured.
In its statement, the Vatican said the whole lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung was removed “to ensure the procedure was radical”.
A Vatican source told Agence France-Presse news agency that further tests are being carried out to see if there was any sign the cancer had spread.
Leo XIV announced news of his operation to the world on Sunday, without at that time confirming that he was suffering from cancer. Speaking from the balcony in St Peter’s Square after delivering the traditional Angelus blessing, he said the nodule, or growth, on his lung was “contained” and had been found “at a very early stage”, but that doctors had advised him to have it removed.
Nodules are quite common and not necessarily cancerous, but after it was examined the medical team confirmed it was pulmonary adenocarcinoma, “as suspected by pre-operative tests”, the Vatican said. It said that the pontiff, who is generally thought to be fit, had no symptoms of infection or illness.

Today, an OpenAI employee has been charged with allegedly installing a recording device inside a boardroom.

A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has shot a man in his car in the Bronx in New York City while the man’s five-year-old son sat in the backseat.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which runs ICE, confirmed an officer discharged his weapon while attempting to arrest a “criminal illegal alien” on Thursday.
The man, later identified as 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, was alive and at a local hospital, officials said.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the ICE officer fired “multiple rounds” into the car with a child inside, calling it an “unconscionable and incredibly serious situation”. The BBC has contacted DHS for comment about Mamdani’s remarks.
The DHS said Belgal was from the Dominican Republic and had “a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, possession of drugs and weapons possession”.
It also claimed Belgal was associated with a transnational criminal group.

This situation is hilarious, seeing a Frenchman who doesn't even take care of his hemorrhoids, trying to say that he will take care of our Amazon! It will be treated dirty. Don't worry, Mother Nature loves Chinese people so much that she gave them several floods to store up water. So they won't have any drought or water problem for the next generation. In fact, there's another typhoon coming for them. So they better use human sandbags to make water reservoirs to store a lot of flood water. CCP is the best government! They are not rescuing people or stopping the flood in order store water. Don't you all see how genius the CCP are? I am glad Hong Kong became part of China again, now they will also experience great storing of water. People should stop complaining about being flooded. They are so ungrateful! Their government is storing up water for the future thats why there's no rescue but only letting it flood.
They should appreciate CCP actions! I hope CCP would store more water so there's no ground collapse. CCP should also cut trees so that the ground water will not be sucked by these useless trees! And they should also hunt sparrows to stop them from eating the locusts that also eats the plants and trees that sucked the water! Locusts are China's best friend!
