Ukraine frontline: street fighting as Russian troops attack Bakhmut – BBC News
On the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine fierce fighting continues in the east of the country.
Russian forces have been stepping up their assault on the city of Bakhmut which they’ve been trying to capture for around six months.
President Putin appears to be seeking a significant victory to mark a year of fighting.
Clive Myrie in Kyiv presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Orla Guerin on the outskirts of Bakhmut.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has apologised to a court for forgetting about biography briefing notes she gave to an aide, in her privacy case against the Mail on Sunday’s publishers.
The Appeal Court heard she had asked an aide to pass on information to the authors of a biography – despite having earlier said she “did not contribute” to the work.
Meghan said she had forgotten the events and had not intended to mislead.
Associated Newspapers is trying to overturn a ruling after it published a letter from the duchess to her father.
Meghan, 40, won her privacy case against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday earlier this year, when the High Court found its publication of the letter was unlawful.

Vice-President JD Vance has said that the US and Iran failed to reach an agreement following lengthy peace talks in Pakistan.
The delegations met in Islamabad during a temporary ceasefire.
Vance said the US “could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms”. Halting Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been a “core goal” that wasn’t reached.
Iran’s foreign ministry says the talks were “intensive”, and called on Washington to refrain from “excessive demands and unlawful requests”.

This is a HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY. The UK could have openned volunteer facilities in the UK to enlist Females, Woman and yes Trans Woman to volunteer to go fight in the "International Legion' for Ukraine. Feminism demands no less of Woman to pay the cost, the sacrifice men pay in war, and do to so 'better than any man'. Ladies, you can do it, and Girls, your turn is next. Instead the Feminists of the UK and other nations in Europe never did that. The Woman there failed to Woman Up and be Real Woman to fight for the glory of Ukraine. My heart goes out to the Russian soldiers who are forced to fight in Putin's illegal war. I can only imagine how much they must yearn to be reunited with their loved ones back home instead of being caught up in the conflict. It's a sad reality that these individuals are being used as pawns in a political game that they may not fully understand or support. One can only hope that they will eventually be able to return to their families and live peaceful lives, free from the burden of war.
