    1) Nothing to do with punishing the UK, it was in the works before referendum and applies to all non-EU countries 2) Many other countries run similar schemes (ESTA, ETA etc), just a matter of time before the UK does too 3) Would be automated if UK was as concerned with creating passports with the proper data as it was with making them blue (which it could have always done anyway)… Brexiters love an external enemy, don't they? Keep dreaming up boogie men to blame.

These security checks were agreed by all EU member countries including the UK in April 2016 two months before the Brexit referendum. These security checks are for citizens of all non-EU and non-Schengen countries, not just for you British subjects.

The Eu is controlling their borders, …. and that is why we left… to control the borders. So that is why they are bad ( and we are good).

Ahh as always good old brits think they are the center of the universe…First this is started WAY before Brexit (time when UK was EU member) and second it is applies to everybody from outside of EU….No little arrogant cnts it is not for UK only "The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which is an automated system for registering travellers from the UK and other non-EU countries each time they cross an EU external border. EES will be an automated IT system for registering travellers from non-EU countries, including the UK, each time they cross a border into or out of the EU. Travellers will need to scan their passports or other travel documents at an automated self-service kiosk prior to crossing the border. This will replace the current manual stamping of passports for visitors to the Schengen area who are not nationals of EU or Schengen countries.

The system will register the personโ€™s name, type of the travel document, biometric data (ie fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit."

The EU (which the UK was a part of) first decided to introduce finger prints and face scans back in 2004. The EES was established in 2013 and the process for finger prints and face scans on non EU citizens was introduced in 2019. Probably because Brexit was being negotiated, this goes some way to explain why the UK was exempt for a time. Not sure why the exemption lasted until 2024, perhaps a Brexit negotiation?

From the eu/ireland and this is disgusting breach of privacy if enforced, enforcing this on holiday makers ๐Ÿ˜‚yet wonโ€™t do this on ones seeking refuge or asylum who could be sex offenders or benefit cheats or economic tourists (taking advantage of a crisis to get free passage/aid in country)

  34. @KoniTheChiwa

    December 24, 2023 at 4:53 pm

For the twats complaining in the commments: The UK introduced a similar system towards the EU citizens. Why are you complaining about this? You're no longer in the EU, you don't control our immigration system, just shut up and take the Ls.

Party manifestos must be enshrined in law. Non-manifesto actions after an election must be outlawed ie Net-Zero. Parliament cannot continue ignoring the will of the electorate.

Not โ€œBrexit fingerprint checksโ€. Nothing to do with Brexit. The EU modelled itโ€™s entry visa system (ETIAS) on the similar US system (ESTA). It was proposed and agreed before the Brexit vote and the U.K. supported that. The U.K. government subsequently chose a version of Brexit that made the U.K. a โ€œthird countryโ€ in the full and certain knowledge that this would be one of the consequences. That choice was entirely theirs and not the EUโ€™s.

Fingerprint and facial profiles wouldnโ€™t be factors if we were in the EU. As Nigel Farage has said, Brexit has been a failure.
