"…and administrative buildings". That phrase, tacked on to the end of this so-called 'report' of a Russian 'attack on residential buildings' – short-hand for "another mindless and savage attack on Ukrainian civilians by Russia which must therefore be defeated" – is the key to unpacking this standard-form piece of western media disinformation and spin. Virtually every other day we get a more or less identical report. Just how far do they think they have managed to rot our brains with reality TV that we will believe that if Russia really had a policy of targeting civilians, it would do so by just sending the occasional missile into random population centres? If the objective was to kill people indiscriminately, common sense tells us that the most efficient approach would be to target one town at a time and hammer it with multiple simultaneous strikes. Also, while I do not pretend to be an expert on modern ballistics, I think I know enough about the destructive power of high explosives and the durability of a block of flats to know that a targeted strike of just one missile would be enough to leave that building looking like the World Trade Centre after 9/11. The death toll would be a lot more than seven. One Russian policy which IS known to be fact is that they have been dropping leaflets on Ukrainian front-line positions giving contact details for arranging surrender and encouraging participation by giving the best treatment to Ukrainian prisoners. I understand that this policy has had some success and is certainly of more utility to the Russian war effort – in reducing actual fighting – than killing non-fighting civilians in their beds. There have been disclosures today further evidencing the British governmental incompetence I have suspect since the Brexit debacle. Apparently GCHQ has been so busy spying on us – check Edward Snowden – that hackers have been able to blindside them and successfully hack both the database of Northern Ireland police officers in and the UK's national electoral register. Up through Brexit, Covid, and the comically mismanaged post-Lockdown inflation spike, the British state has pretty much written the book on governmental incompetence but I am sure even they would have recognised that two such policies like the encouraging Ukrainian troops to surrender and the one that the BBC and the rest of western media is trying to sell us by stealth, would be contradictory. Unlike the people running our country, Vladimir Putin is far from stupid. There is no way he would undermine his 'Hearts and minds' front-line policy by engendering hate through targeting civilians. I am not suggesting that Ukrainian civilians have not died: what I am saying is that they have been the unfortunate collateral damage caused in Russia taking out Ukrainian military intelligence centres which threaten the lives of Russian front-line soldiers and therefore the strategic priorities America forced on the Russian state by seeking to bring a country with which it shares a 1000 mile border into NATO. Oh yes, surprise, surprise – the narrative being constructed around the hacking disclosures is that Russia is responsible as Russian activity "…had been detected", whatever that means. If America's proxy-war in Ukraine goes on long enough, the British media will be blaming Vladimir Putin for sinking the Titanic!

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
