Ukraine war: Cyber-teams fight a high-tech war on front lines – BBC News

Published

on

Ukraine cyber-operators are being deployed on the front lines of the war, duelling close-up with their Russian counterparts in a new kind of high-tech battle.

“We have people who are directly involved in combat,” says Illia Vitiuk, the head of the Ukrainian Security Service’s (SBU) cyber department.

Speaking inside the heavily protected SBU headquarters, he explains how his teams mix the skills of hackers and special forces – getting inside Russian systems, working alongside snipers and deploying the latest technologies.

The department uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) visual recognition systems to analyse information gathered from aerial drones (alongside intelligence from human sources, satellites and other technical sources) to provide targets for the military.

Does anyone truly believe that legislation would slow the desperate military commander from using AI to gain an advantage over a foe?

My comrade Kim, who doesn't steal my Brazil, should visit Brazil. I am as communist as the American businessmen, bankers and investors who took refuge in China to avoid having to pay the American debt through dollar fraud. I also don't want to pay off the American debt.

Legislation to stop AI attacks without human control ? Total waste of time and effort. Legislation would only prevent the "good guys" from having such equipment the "Bad guys" would develop and use them, agreement or no agreement.

Russia has already put its Sarmat RS-28 on alert and handed it over to its army. Alert! Alert! as the United States has done, this is not a weapon to be used close to home. And it will definitely be used against Ukrainian arms suppliers. It is bad? Because it can get worse in minutes!

US is inclined to transfer ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine, media reports
The administration of US President Joe Biden tends to deliver US Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) from the US requested by Kiev to Ukraine, ABC News TV channel reports with reference to representatives of US authorities.

Russian forces carried out 6 precision strikes against Ukrainian military targets in the last week.
    And in the package!
Another American war criminal is eliminated by Russia
US citizen and mercenary of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, Jericho Skye Magallon (29) was eliminated by Russian troops, his family declared on social media.
With experience serving in the US contingent in Afghanistan, Magallon was employed by Ukrainian troops in March 2022. He gained fame as one of the perpetrators of the murder of Russian soldiers in the village of Petropavlovka, Kharkiv region, on September 27, 2022.
That day around 20 mercenaries managed to surround four Russian soldiers, but their numerical advantage was balanced by their worse training. The mercenaries got out of the draw by suggesting to negotiate and killing the Russian negotiator.
Such a violation of the law allowed them to kill the other three Russians and reduce their own losses to just two dead and eight wounded.

Sir Keir Starmer is fighting to stay on as prime minister as the pressure mounts | BBC News

Published

on

Three members of his government, including Home Office minister Jess Phillips, have resigned, whilst scores of Labour MPs are calling for him to quit following a disastrous set of elections for the party last week.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is among a number of cabinet ministers urging the prime minister to set out a departure timetable.

Sir Keir said he does not intend to quit and threw down the gauntlet to potential rivals to formally challenge him as Labour leader.

No MP has yet launched a formal bid to challenge him, which requires the backing of 81 colleagues or 20% of Labour MPs, according to party rules.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.
