Israel warns Gaza to prepare for retaliation following surprise attack – BBC News
Israel has warned Gazans to prepare for retaliation after an unprecedented attack on the country by Hamas left a reported 250 people dead.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country has entered a “long and difficult war”.
Since the initial attack, Israel has been striking targets in the Gaza Strip, and has advised people there to take shelter.
More than 230 Gazans have been killed and 1,000 others wounded so far, according to Palestinian officials.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

US President Donald Trump said US-Iran talks could restart in Pakistan “in the next two days”, though Iran is yet to comment.
He also said the war is “very close to over”, in a preview of an interview released by Fox News.
Meanwhile, Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon continue, after it held talks with the Lebanese government in the US on Tuesday.
