the only way, going forward, for the 6 counties of the 9 counties of Ulster to evolve, develop and progress is within a unified Ireland. It may take, and rightfully, a decade or more, but the dogs in the proverbial street know its happening and I doubt anyone in England, Wales or Scotland would loose any sleep over it

I always consider the DUP the "Party of NO". That's the only word they know. They do nothing constructive and never meet anyone halfway. The sooner the people of NI see that the DUP ultimate doesn't have their best interests in mind (look at their pro-Brexit policy), the better.

The 1801 act of union gave all parts of the UK equality in in trade and other matters. The rest of the UK is by far NI's biggest trading partner. The NI Protocol removes that right to free trade within the UK. We want our rights back and will not settle for anything less. Talk of a DUP climb down is wishful nonsense. Clearly the NI Protocol needs to be removed to allow the Belfast Agreement of 1998 and Stormont to survive.

  16. @raylast3873

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

Nothing is going to restore power-sharing, in the long run. It was always a stopgap measure that only kicked the can down the road and, incidentally, was a result of Sinn Fein‘s total inability to formulate a political strategy that could win a majority or force a resolution. Their compromising has failed as spectacularly as the previous period of individual terrorism.

  17. @alesh-cz

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

I guess I don't understand the Good Friday agreement… it seems as if the DUP has a guaranteed place in the NI government regardless of their results in the elections. They hold the government hostage by refusing to taking part in the government. This is mind-blowingly stupid setup. If they don't want to be in the government, then give the spot to someone else.

Brexit didnt break northern island. our spinless weak dithering politicians sold them down the river . They've sold the entire uk down the river . Golden opportunity wasted . Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

  19. @jimbo8157

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

If there has to be a border, it obviously should be between the Republic and NI, not NI and GB. What has happened is unacceptable cow-towing to the Irish Nationalists.

  20. @ShizuruNakatsu

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

Brexit sucks for me here in the Republic too. Now I have to pay customs/import fees whenever I buy something from the UK. Used to be safe from all that.

They better not add a hard border. I'm not going to be told where in Ireland I can and can't go. Ireland is Ireland. If I could drive to Belfast before, I still will. We didn't even get a say in Brexit so fuck that if they think they can block off part of the island to us.

  21. @babygorilla4233

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

I feel like as the world gets more complcated and beautocratic people trying to be racist or zenophpbic are just too stupid to navigate it. Thats what Brexit was they knew they could get voters in britan out by just talking about how Germany is letting all the Muslims in! But thats all the thought they put into it now the entire countrys been fighting over it for what 5 years? Thank god the results have been so terrible by causeing so much dammage to your own econemy in leaving it strengthens the EU. After all why leave you want to end up like britan?

  22. @e.tthee-th0t284

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

I find it really funny that no matter what happens the DUP will support the UK, the same UK that offer N.I up for deals.

  23. @Driver6M

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

You've got to laugh at the Unionists. They've been jumping up and down and beating their chests for years. In another generation or 2, Northern Ireland will be disolved and most younger people living there won't give a stuff about the pointless fighting.

  24. @crestfallensunbro6001

Both Northern Ireland & Scotland never voted for Brexit . England & Wales did . This tells the story of how divided Uk is . As England has the biggest population by a country mile it’s always there way . Not very democratic for the rest of us .

  27. @sarahlachman1349

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

Nortnern Ireland needs to be REUNITED with Ireland ; The UK needs to leave.

  28. @iagobkstar

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

That's not the flag of NI, that's the cross of Saint Patrick which represented ALL of Ireland before partition. NI has no official flag other than the Union Jack. Unionists generally use the Ulster hand flag, and nationalists use the tricolor Irish flag, and this is a touchy subject. Just avoid using flags when representing NI, and you'll be fine…

  29. @eforde2

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

NI is not a real country. It is a fake colonization of another land, founded on sectarian hate.

Fun fact many protestants in North Ireland have voted SF, at this point I think North Ireland would be better of as independent nation or part of Ireland, UK is just a mess right now both economically and politically

  38. @jonathanbowers8964

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

There is a really easy solution to the Northern Ireland crisis: have a referendum on Reunification. The polls indicate that the numbers are about there. Considering how horrible the Tories and the DUP are at campaigning, I think that now is the time to push for Reunification.

  39. @user-mk2xf5jn5e

    December 17, 2023 at 11:04 pm

For people asking "why cant they unify with the rest of Ireland or leave to Britian?" Well, their culture is so mutated they cant realy blend well in either society. Its like asking Donbass citizens to be Russians or Ukrainians, they are niether at this point
