Israel-Gaza conflict: What is Hamas? – BBC News
Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist militant group which rules the Gaza Strip.
Hamas is sworn to Israel’s destruction and has fought several wars with Israel since it took power in Gaza in 2007.
In between those wars, it has fired or allowed other groups to fire thousands of rockets at Israel, and carried out other deadly attacks.
Israel has also repeatedly attacked Hamas with air strikes, and, together with Egypt, has blockaded the Gaza Strip since 2007 in what it says is for its security.
Hamas as a whole, or in some cases its military wing, is designated a terrorist group by Israel, the United States, the European Union and the UK, as well as other powers. Hamas is backed by Iran which funds it and provides weapons and training.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iranâs ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iranâs ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist organization not militants. In fact: The BBC, for instance, didnât hold back from describing 9/11, the 2005 London bombings and the 2015 Bataclan Theatre attack in Paris as âterrorâ attacks. Indeed, at the very moment that it was making the case that describing Hamas as terrorists would breach its editorial guidelines, the BBC reported the shooting of two Swedish nationals in Brussels as a âterror attack.â

Besides the construction of the Ben-Gurion canal, there is also a huge gas field directly off the coast in the Mediterranean Sea that belongs to Palestine: 'Gaza Marine is a natural gas field off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Marine natural gas field is located approximately 36 kilometers (22 mi) offshore at a depth of 610 meters (2,000 feet). The field was discovered in 2000 by BG Group and is estimated to contain more than 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.' – Wikipedia. As the current price today is $2.85 per cubic foot, the value of this field would be approximately $2.85 trillion. Israel wants to access these fields and also aims to build a pipeline. Gaza is in the way. Now you know the reason for the war.

I had a Palestinian friend in grade 8. He tried to convert me into a Muslim, and after telling him I was already Christian, he looked down on me and stopped being my friend. I'm not saying all Muslims are like this, but trying to convert other people by force is definitely a problem that must be fixed. Lest we forget about the Inquisition and Crusades.

One of the things that bothers me
is how pro-Israel people always shift the blame of hamas to the Palestinian people because they voted for Hamas
No ONE points out that when Hamas was elected
It was on a platform of Anti-Corruption and had NO "Death to Israel" in their platform
The Palestinians didn't vote for the current charter of Hamas.. that changed AFTER the elections.

Or is that not whom are responsible for helping these families? Okay so the UN are China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly (with end of term year):â according to Google⌠I was never into paying attention to geography in HS & I know this isnât an excuse either but I am from Mexico but I grew up in the US since the age of 3 & seeing the news regarding this current situation affecting our world peaked my thoughts as to how this have been going on since 2007 or how others have said it⌠for 75 years?
