Why would anyone choose to live in an apartment where 'open plan living' is basically a kitchen with a sofa instead of a house? Because of cost.

Flats are more expensive than 2/3 bedroom house as with a flat/apartment you have to additionally pay annual ground rent and a monthly service charge, of which you have no control.
