Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News
Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News
A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.
Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.
At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.
So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?
AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.

returning to this again, just to see Peter Hitchens win, AGAIN. Hitchens is one of the coolest people alive to me. Articulate, polite, honest, yet cutting, and able to stir up the status quo without stooping. Had there been tougher penalties Matthew Perry would still be alive.

I will have to agree with Hitchens on this one. addiction is not a physical nor mental disease, it's a mind trick. learn to control your mind then you break out of addiction. from personal experience, I used to drink 3 bottles of wine every day, I thought I was addicted physically but it turned out it's only in my head. I decided to stop one day and find other way to occupy my mind, it worked perfectly.

Christianity instructs us to love the sinner but hate the sin. But oftentimes the sin is perfectly understandable, and things are going off the rails because the sinner is a bit of a schmuck.

January 4, 2024 at 8:04 pm
What I got from this was Matthew Perry, who was obviously very snarky, weak and arrogant, was not used to being around people who weren't nodding along with everything he says, because he was usually in a room where people are beholden to power and are relentlessly obsequious and reverent to him, in other words, he's a fish out of water when he leaves Los Angeles and faces someone who doesn't need to fit in and be popular.

Anybody that argues with Peter is a fool, in his mind he's right and everybody else is wrong, he claims it's fact based, and occasionally he does give food for thought but mist of it is garbage. Watch one of the debates with his brother Christopher, he makes minxemeat of Peter. His attitude also is enough to make me cringe
Christopher was also rather arrogant but o ce you get past his demeanor you would find that's he really cares, is a true humanitarian and though I think he's a bit harsh at times his views were, for the most part, pretty enlightened and compassionate. Peter never was any of those things

Pathetic weakness is what it is……..many other people have bigger problems than fame and fortune… .
What these people typically really suffer from is themselves trying to fix the lack of attention they suffered before fame and fortune, which you cannot turn back time on, and is trying to still continue to grab attention to his earlier personal problem of attention deficit by any means in later life… …a lot of people with inner attention deficit in life subconsciously find their ways into careers that provide public attention but it won't fix the past…..
