US and Iran launch strikes for second day | BBC News
The US says it hit 90 targets, in a second day of strikes on Iran after Donald Trump earlier threatened to “hit them hard” .
Several Gulf nations have since reported apparent Iranian attacks – this included explosions in Bahrain’s capital Manama, Kuwait intercepting missiles and drones, and Qatar issuing a security alert.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator with the US, said America “still hasn’t learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free”.
Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in areas along the country’s southern coast and that strikes have hit Iranian-controlled islands in the Gulf.
Iran said it responded with retaliatory attacks on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in the early hours of Wednesday.

Can tech billionaires replace democracy? | BBC News
The Free Republic of Liberland wants to be a truly libertarian, digital micronation that runs on the same technology as cryptocurrencies.
The unrecognised micronation is bankrolled by some of the wealthiest men in crypto and it runs on an idea they are trying to export – that government itself can be replaced with blockchain technologies.
Citizens vote on laws and referendums using digital tokens, and the voting itself is automatically tallied and enforced by code, rather than counted by officials.
However, the technology is still in an early phase, and human officials are still required to implement laws.

Marine Le Pen found guilty, but court clears way for presidential run | BBC News
The Paris appeal court has upheld Marine Le Pen’s conviction for misusing EU funds but shortened her sentence, clearing the path for her to run in the April 2027 French presidential election.
A five-year ban on holding public office has been reduced and backdated to March 2025, and the court said it now considered the penalty had already been served.
However, the leader of the hard-right National Rally has been given a one-year term wearing an electronic ankle tag under house arrest, although that would not necessarily stop her running either.
Le Pen has said repeatedly she would not run for president if she had to wear an electronic tag as she would not feel “totally free” to campaign.

Farming to survive after two years of war | BBC News
Two years of conflict have devastated Gaza’s infrastructure and its ability to feed itself. With food supplies unreliable and prices soaring, many Gazans have turned to urban farming – planting on rooftops, in home gardens, and next to tents.
At the heart of this struggle is a small seed bank run by Salama Mhanna and his daughter Hanadi.
Originally started in 2017 to preserve local crop varieties, their project was destroyed during the fighting in 2024. Now operating from a tent, they are starting again to provide farmers with the seeds they need to survive.
