Toblerone to remove Matterhorn mountain peak from packaging – BBC News

Published

on

Toblerone is to remove the Matterhorn mountain peak from its packaging when some of the chocolate’s production is moved from Switzerland to Slovakia.

US firm Mondelez said the image of the 4,478m (14,692 ft) mountain will be replaced by a more generic summit as the chocolate will no longer fall under the strict rules of “Swissness”.

They state that national symbols are not allowed to be used to promote milk-based products that are not made exclusively in Switzerland.

Russia’s ‘torture prisons’ in Ukraine exposed | Global News Podcast

Published

on

WARNING: This video discusses violence and sexual assault.

A new investigation by the BBC has uncovered details about secret prisons in Russia and Russian-occupied Ukraine, where the torture and ill-treatment of civilians is “systematic and widespread” according to the United Nations. Former detainees have described beatings, mock executions and sexual violence. The allegations date back to 2014, when the Kremlin annexed Crimea and occupied territory in Donetsk and Luhansk.

We speak to reporter Tania Kharchenko. She has interviewed one Ukrainian woman, Liudmyla, who was seized off the street and sent to prison for three years.

The BBC tried to contact the men accused of carrying out abuses as guards at these prisons, but they did not respond. The Russian Embassy in the UK said Russia had “consistently advocated respect for international law and the rule of law” and allegations of crimes during the Ukraine conflict “are documented and investigated”.
