Trump says Iran’s response to his peace plan “totally unacceptable” | BBC News
President Trump has dismissed Iran’s response to US proposals to end the war as “totally unacceptable”.
Iran media reported that its response included proposals for an immediate end to the war on all fronts, a halt to a US naval blockade and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran.
Trump posted on the Truth Social platform: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called “Representatives.” I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.”
US proposals are reported to include a suspension on Iranian nuclear enrichment, the lifting of sanctions, and restoring free transit of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has continued to block the Strait of Hormuz – leading to a rise in world oil prices. The US, for its part, has been enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports to exert pressure on Tehran to agree to its terms – a move that has infuriated Iran.
Inside Iran, the BBC has been speaking to people struggling with the impact of the war. The regime has imposed an internet ban, but using trusted sources, the BBC has been hearing from people traumatised by the war, and by government repression.

The US has launched a new round of strikes on Iran after President Donald Trump said the ceasefire was over and signalled he’d “hit them hard again” following an overnight exchange of attacks.
Explosions have been reported by Iranian state media in parts of the country’s south, including Sirik and Bandar Abbas – port cities on the Strait of Hormuz.
After the latest strikes, Trump said in a post on Truth Social: “This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!”
Iranian State television aired a statement on Wednesday from the country’s joint military command, warning countries in the region that “providing support” to the U.S. will make them “a legitimate target”.

The Iranian authorities warned any attack from the US would be met with an “immediate response”.
US Central Command (Centcom) said the latest strikes were carried out to “further degrade Tehran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation” in the vital waterway.
In a statement it added: “The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway.”

The US is banning the sale of all products sold by Juul, one of the country’s top e-cigarette companies.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it did not have enough data to be sure that marketing the firm’s products was “appropriate for the protection of public health”.
Juul said it would challenge the move, which comes after other recent anti-smoking efforts by the FDA, including plans to reduce the amount of addictive nicotine allowed in cigarettes.
