Every Monday “The Style Report” sponsored by Goodwill Central Oklahoma focuses on fashion, hot trends, and community! Host Alexis Young partnered with Goodwill to emphasize how fashion doesn’t just boost confidence, but how it also transforms lives when you shop and donate at Goodwill.

This week Alexis is talking 8 of the craziest hairstyle trends in modern American history.

🏆 The Trends 🏆

1.) Beehive: Invented in 1960 by a Chicago hairstylist who designed it after beehive and a small, black velvet fez-like hat. It stopped being trendy by the 70’s. It saw a revival in the mid 2000s after Amy Winehouse and Rihanna started rocking it.

2.) Half-shaved hair : Saw its peak in 2010 and 2011 after Cassie and Willow Smith began rocking their hair half cut off.

3.) The Pompadour: famous in the 1950s and 60s thanks to Elvis Presley, but was made a hit in the 18th century by women.

4.) The Rattail: Big in the 80s and 90s amongst alternative groups. The new modification is the mullet.

5.) Finger waves: 1920s and 30s became a smash hit due to the flapper and jazz era. Revival happened in the 90s thanks to Missy Elliot and Madonna.

6.) Bowl cut: It was popular in the 80s and 90s for everyone.. You may have also seen it in Stranger Things, Ned’s Declassified, and in Dum and Dumber with Jim Carey.

7.) Spiky Hair: 90s to 2006 was peak time for people to slick their wet hair with “Gorilla Snot” and create pointy hair spikes with frosted tips.

8.) Emo Hair: Early 2000s to 2010s saw a huge surge of skunk hair highlights, proofed up hair, and long side bangs with plenty of hairspray. Bands like Paramore and The Veronicas noted as rocking the emo/grunge look.
