Poland says up to four of 19 Russian drones shot down after entering airspace | BBC News
Poland’s prime minister said a “huge number” of Russian drones violated the country’s airspace during strikes on western Ukraine.
Speaking ahead of an emergency meeting, Donald Tusk said “this is the first time Russian drones have been shot down over the territory of a Nato country”.
A military operation has ended after Polish and Nato aircraft were deployed and most airports have reopened – Russia has yet to comment.
The drones that entered Poland were part of the latest major aerial attack on Ukraine, where Russia launched 415 drones overnight.
Ukraine’s President Zelensky said “at least eight strike drones” were aimed towards Poland, and called the escalation an “extremely dangerous precedent for Europe”.

‘Killer fungus’ destroying invasive plant in UK | BBC News
A new species of “killer fungus” has been discovered that destroys an invasive plant in the UK, raising hopes that native habitats could be restored.
The scientist who found the moss dieback fungus and is tracking its spread across the UK took the BBC’s Georgina Rannard to South Wales to see the fungus.
It leaves “fairy rings of death” on the heath-star moss which arrived on British soil in the 1940s and swiftly pushed out other plants, damaging heathlands, sand dunes and other habitats across Britain.

Palace was handed Andrew’s controversial envoy emails six years ago | BBC News
Buckingham Palace was handed emails six years ago that would have shown that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was sharing confidential government information while a trade envoy, according to court documents.
It has emerged that an archive of 30,000 emails, containing information about the former prince’s controversial financial dealings, was given to the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer in the Royal Household, in 2020.
The emails had been taken from a personal business contact of the former Prince Andrew.
When asked about what happened to the emails, Buckingham Palace said: “Since there is an ongoing police enquiry concerning Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, it is not possible to provide any comment on these matters.”
Mountbatten-Windsor has rejected any wrongdoing in his associations with Jeffrey Epstein and denied any personal gain from his role as trade envoy.
