Roma, 22 maggio 2025. La Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti inaugura PM23, il nuovo spazio culturale nel cuore pulsante della Città Eterna, al civico 23 della storica Piazza Mignanelli, a pochi passi da Piazza di Spagna.
Ad aprire la programmazione espositiva è Orizzonti | Rosso, una mostra che indaga il colore rosso e la sua anima, la forza simbolica ed estetica così vigorosa da trascendere la dimensione stessa del colore, attraverso la lente dell’arte e della moda.
Orizzonti | Rosso è spazio di dialogo e armonia, tanto estetica quanto dialettica, tra le iconiche creazioni di Valentino Garavani, oggi più che mai attuali, e ottanta opere eccezionali, esplorando così le molteplici dimensioni del rosso: la sua bellezza, i legami con l’identità e le sue risonanze emotive e oniriche.
Colore archetipico per eccellenza, il rosso è ritenuto il primo pigmento che l’essere umano abbia appreso a creare, riprodurre e trasformare, prima nella pittura, poi nella tintura. Attraverso i secoli, ha mantenuto il suo potere evocativo, arricchendosi di significati poetici e simbolici.
Intimamente legato all’universo della moda e carico di valore emotivo, il rosso rappresenta il cuore pulsante dell’eredità creativa di Valentino Garavani, unico couturier ad aver costruito un corpus espressivo così riconoscibile attorno a un solo colore, divenendo il fil rouge della sua espressione artistica e l’identità del patrimonio creativo.
Tutto iniziò con quell’abito che esplode in volumi di rose, “Fiesta”, apparso nella collezione d’esordio del 1959. Fino all’ultima creazione del 2008, il rosso è la firma, l’alfabeto nascosto nel cuore del Maestro Garavani.
Sono cinquanta le creazioni rosse tra le più iconiche firmate da Valentino Garavani, che attraversano oltre cinque decenni di carriera, affiancate da trenta straordinarie opere d’arte moderna e contemporanea, molte delle quali esposte per la prima volta a Roma. Tra gli artisti in mostra: Andy Warhol, Clyfford Still, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko e Pablo Picasso, accanto a maestri italiani quali Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana e Mario Schifano.
