Rachel Reeves has announced a multi billion pound investment for transport projects across the country.
The money will be spent on tram, train and bus projects in mayoral authorities across the Midlands, the North and the West Country. Keir Starmer’s rival, Andy Burnham, has made significant progress towards ousting him as prime minister after winning the Makerfield by-election with a thumping majority.
It means the former mayor of Manchester can now launch a challenge for the leadership of the country.
He said the by-election result was a vote for change and “could be a turning point” in British politics.
Keir Starmer said he will stand in any leadership contest and fight for his job.

The victory has paved the way for him to challenge Keir Starmer for Labour party leadership.
Burnham said his win could mark a “turning point” for the country, and Starmer has confirmed he would run in any possible leadership election.
