Ethnic Mongolians battle to keep their language and culture alive in China

In recent years, the Chinese government has faced damning criticism over its handling of ethnic minorities like the Uighurs and also Tibetans.
Now the central government, which is dominated by China’s majority Han Chinese, has decided to reduce Mongolian language teaching, prompting rare protests in China’s northern border region.
China correspondent Stephen McDonell travelled to the Mongolian grasslands.

A Russian drone hit an apartment block in Romania causing a fire and wounding two people, officials say.
The incident happened on Friday in the town of Galati – close to Romania’s eastern border with Ukraine and Moldova.
Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said “Russia’s reckless behaviour is a danger to us all”, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s “war of aggression had crossed yet another line”.
Russian drones have strayed across Romania’s border a number of times during the four-year war with Ukraine, but it is the first time citizens from the Nato country have been hurt. Russia has yet to comment on the incident.
