What’s the impact of the UK Supreme Court gender ruling on the NHS? | BBC Newscast

Published

on

We look at what the Supreme Court ruling means for the UK’s health service, the NHS.

The NHS will be pursued if it doesn’t follow new guidance on single-sex spaces the chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission has said.

Currently, the NHS guidance says trans people should be accommodated according to the way they dress, their names and their pronouns.

Under the ruling this would be scrapped.

BBC Newscast presenter Adam Fleming is joined by BBC’s Social Affairs Editor Alison Holt and BBC Health Editor Hugh Pym.

Also, officials from Ukraine, the US and Europe have been meeting today in Paris to discuss a peace deal.

These are the highest level talks, with the US and Europe, about the war since February. Adam is also joined by BBC’s Diplomatic Correspondent James Landale.

Oil prices slide on hopes of US-Iran peace deal | BBC News

Published

on

Oil prices have fallen sharply and Asian stock markets have risen on hopes of a deal that could bring an end to the US-Israel war with Iran.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during a visit to India that negotiators had a “pretty solid thing on the table” and an agreement to end the conflict might be reached on Monday.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said at the weekend the two sides were both “very close and very far” from reaching an agreement.

According to US media, the mooted deal is not a final settlement and instead leaves some of the thorniest issues to be negotiated later, including the scope and timing of Iranian sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and Washington’s demands for Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions.
