Greenland prepares for visit from US vice-president JD Vance | BBC News
A delegation of US officials are due to spend Friday at a remote military base in Greenland – in what is being viewed as the latest move by the US to acquire the Danish territory.
The US group includes Vice-President JD Vance and his wife Usha – the tour began as a private tour by the US second lady, without her husband.
While the trip was originally framed as a cultural tour, the scale of the security preparations made it clear that this was something bigger.
Greenlanders have made clear they would protest Mrs Vance’s presence.
Greenland’s Acting Prime Minister Mute B Egede said “Just for the record, the government of Greenland has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official.”

Body-worn video of a woman’s “degrading” arrest, which police falsely told a court did not exist, has been shared exclusively with the BBC.
Both police forces declined to comment due to ongoing damages claims for more than £3m, though Northamptonshire Police told a court the use of force was lawful.

The England and Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford has been speaking about his own experiences of poverty and being short of food as a child.
He was describing his childhood as he campaigned for the government to provide free school meal vouchers for vulnerable children throughout the school holidays.
He’s written to every MP for support after helping to raise £20 million for food for low income families during the lockdown.

Three people have died after a suspected hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship travelling from Argentina to Cape Verde.
This includes a 70 and 69-year-old Dutch husband and wife who became ill on board and were taken off the ship – the body of a third Dutch individual is still on board.
A 69-year-old Brit is currently in intensive care in Johannesburg, South Africa – the only confirmed case of the virus. Two crew on board are also sick and require urgent care, operator Oceanwide Expeditions says
