A powerful typhoon passing Japan’s east coast is bringing heavy rainfall and major disruption. More than 1.9 million people in and around Tokyo have been told to evacuate. Winds from Typhoon Dujuan have caused power cuts for thousands of people, and hundreds of flights have been cancelled. Large events – including the Asian Games and Tokyo Game Show – have been postponed or called off.

Laura has interviewed Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, who has defended his claims about a phone call with King Charles.

He says the then-Prince of Wales said “we’ll forget her soon enough” during an argument over whether Princes William and Harry should walk in Diana’s funeral procession.

The Palace released a statement questioning his version of events, saying “grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory.”

Scientists say they have discovered why the bacteria responsible for the UK’s worst outbreak of meningitis B in Kent earlier this year proved so dangerous.

More than 20 young people, mostly students, were infected in the March outbreak, linked to a Canterbury nightclub. All needed hospital treatment, while nine ended up in intensive care and two died.

Experts at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the University of Oxford, who have looked at the DNA of the bacterium, say it picked up some genetic material from other bugs found naturally in the throats of some people.

This exchange created a new strain or variant that then spread between clubbers and caused severe illness.
