Explosions injure 18 in Damascus during Emmanuel Macron’s visit | BBC News

Published

on

Eighteen people have been injured after explosive devices went off in central Damascus, Syrian media says, reportedly near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron had been staying.

State agency Sana said two devices had been detected by security forces, which exploded as specialised units began the process to defuse them.

One device was placed inside a parked vehicle, while the other was concealed in a bin, the agency said.

Macron has been in the capital for talks with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa at the presidential palace. His officials said he was safe and did not hear the explosions.

Toblerone to remove Matterhorn mountain peak from packaging – BBC News

Published

on

Toblerone is to remove the Matterhorn mountain peak from its packaging when some of the chocolate’s production is moved from Switzerland to Slovakia.

US firm Mondelez said the image of the 4,478m (14,692 ft) mountain will be replaced by a more generic summit as the chocolate will no longer fall under the strict rules of “Swissness”.

They state that national symbols are not allowed to be used to promote milk-based products that are not made exclusively in Switzerland.
