World’s second-largest diamond found in Botswana | BBC News
The second-largest diamond ever found – a rough 2,492-carat stone – has been unearthed in Botswana at a mine owned by Canadian firm Lucara Diamond.
It is the biggest find since the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond, found in South Africa in 1905 and cut into nine separate stones, many of which are in the British Crown Jewels.
The diamond was found at Karowe mine, about 500km (300 miles) north of Botswana’s capital, Gaborone.
Botswana’s government said it was the largest diamond ever discovered in the southern African state.

US President Donald Trump says he has ‘cancelled’ strikes against Iran | BBC News
US President Donald Trump said he has cancelled strikes on Iran tonight and suggested that a deal to end the war was close at hand.
“Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved”, including the “US, Israel, Saudi Arabia”, Trump said on Truth Social.
In an earlier post, he vowed to hit Iran “very hard” on Thursday night.
Iran has not responded to Trump’s latest message – but earlier warned the US of an “endless quagmire that you will be stuck in for years”.

The sixth minister to resign for Starmer’s cabinet in a month, and one of its most loyal, the question will now turn to what lies ahead for the PM.
