Migration will overwhelm Europe unless EU finds solution, says Italy’s PM – BBC News

Published

on

Italy’s prime minister has warned that Europe will be overwhelmed by migration unless the EU finds solutions.

Italy currently receives the largest number of people smugglers, boats carrying asylum seekers and other migrants in to Europe.

Many people then try to travel on to countries across the continent.

They're illegal economic migrants and they should all be sent back. The arguements made by this professor are spurious, blaming the increases on climate change, please. It's down to people from failed states thinking they can try their chances in Northern Europe instead of fixing the problems in their home countries. He also stated that Europe doesn't have a problem accepting refugees from Ukraine but they are genuine refugees from a first world European nation fleeing war, once the war is won they will go home. If something isn't done now the EU will be swamped, public services will collapse and Europe will be turned into the type of places these people have strove so hard to leave.

If the majority are economic migrants perhaps we could set up industries in their home countries in Africa to improve their economies and reduce the impetus to migrate?
Arabs are a different case, already wealthy. Their illegal immigrants are more motivated by politics and wanting to take over in our countries.

Refugees in Europe is a big disaster. Merkel did a big mistake to open the borders in Europe. Borders must be closed for the security of the country and the safety of the citizens. Criminality is everywhere in Europe. Deportation must be done.

Classic, the BBC obviously get on a professor on who calls these people refugees. They are not. They are affluent citizens in their own countries as the costs of getting to the West is not affordable for most. Europe needs to invest more into these countries where people are coming from and these people fleeing them need to stay at home and make their own countries work better. Our leaders are too weak to effectively deal with these issues.

The organizations/people who support these so-called 'migrants' by giving supplies/food are part of the problem. It sends a confusing message. Either you want them there or not. Why don't the EU pool their funds and apprehend the 'immigrants' at their first port of entry and send them all back.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
