I'm always suspicious of nonsensical things like this. So, I turned mine off and removed the sim and battery. I turne it on 3 days later. I alerted someone who lives nearby that I'd turned it back and they rang me. No sooner had I said "HELLO" then the phone turned OFF. Is this the governments way of saying "SC*EW YOU FOR TURNING YOUR PHONE OFF"? After all, some people said that they'd heard that if you REFUSE the alert that phones will not work. So, I;m left wondering. After all, I am now having a succession of problems since then.
Three days ago ALL my contacts vanished and had to be PAINSTAKINGLY input again. Then the ring tones ALL vanished and they TOO had to be installed again from SD card. Then the ring tone I had ASSIGNED to someone (so I know who it is purely by the ring) had gone to default ring tone. I feel it HAS to be the government. After all, this NEVER happened before.
If it continues I'll simply smash the da*n thing. After all, I am NOT a phone zombie – unlike most who are like 5-year-olds walking round with them constantly up to their ears or held out in front of them. It's time that this was seen as an illness and recognised as a form of OCD where most people are totally OBSESSED with these horrible things.
I don't even need it and I'm waiting with my hammer and if anymore faults occur, my hammer will have some fun with the phone. I HATE the things.

I think all kinds of warning systems should be banned, fire alarms, car horns, train horns, emergency vehicle sirens, etc, they are all trying to control us.
If I'm in a building and a fire alarm goes off, I ignore it, I'm not letting 'Them' control what I do.
If I see a fire approaching me, I'll shout "Stop, go back, if you keep approaching I will shout STOP again"
All these alarms and sirens are just a way for 'Them' to control us. 🙂

I understand it’s not just the Government, but police and fire services, etc. who will have the ability to send ‘emergency’ messages. I am not sure if local councils will have access to it. Does anyone know? It could quickly become just a cheap way for local authorities to communicate, e.g. flood warnings each time there is heavy rain. The question is what is threshold for ‘emergency’, as the word is being redefined. (Sometimes, I’ve noticed digging up the road is now called ‘emergency repair’ or ‘essential repair’, even when it is routine and no one is actually working!)

I really don't understand your absolutely stupid attitudes. I'm a Brit living abroad. If I were still living in the UK I'd be glad of them, just like I'm glad of them here. Wait until there is an emergency and they use the alert system. I bet you'll be bloody glad of them. Those of you who think there is some other agenda might die in your beds because you turned them off and you didn't know there was a flood or some other emergency approaching.
