Tens of thousands of people are demonstrating across France, in protest at what they say is under-investment in high schools.

Some protests over the past week in France have turned violent, as protesters and authorities clashed.

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said: “Burning down a high school does not improve the state of high school buildings. Lynching a teacher does not help replace teachers”, adding it is a “lie” to suggest the government had ordered “police repression” against demonstrators.

Brits seeking mental health support are travelling overseas for psychedelic therapy.

The treatments involve substances such as psilocybin and ayahuasca, both of which are illegal under UK law.

At the same time, researchers are conducting clinical trials to investigate whether something similar could have a place here.

While campaigners argue the treatments could transform care, further evidence is needed and significant regulatory hurdles remain.

US death row inmate Christa Pike is “conscious and speaking” after surviving a failed execution attempt in the state of Tennessee last week, her lawyers say.

Pike, 50, continues to receive critical medical care while handcuffed in hospital, according to a statement from her attorneys on Tuesday.

She was sentenced to death following her conviction for murdering Colleen Slemmer in 1995. But Pike survived two lethal injections last Wednesday and was transferred to a hospital in Nashville for treatment, where she remained unconscious while medical staff cleared her body of the injected pentobarbital.

An anaesthesiologist advising Pike’s defence team said her survival is highly unusual.
