This is inside the Enhanced Games – the competition some have dubbed the “Steroid Olympics”.

The inaugural games featured dozens of elite athletes using performance-enhancing drugs to try and break world records in track, weightlifting and swimming.

The drugs they use must be legal, and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

But substances like testosterone and human growth hormone – banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency – are not only celebrated, they’re encouraged and for sale.

The UK’s infrastructure has also felt the strain from the heat, with more than 300 schools being partially closed this week, and Britain’s biggest train company, Govia Thameslink, warned passengers not to travel on Wednesday unless it’s absolutely necessary, because of speed restrictions for safety.

Steve Rosenberg inside Putin’s economic forum | BBC News

Published

on

Ukrainian drone attacks cast a dark cloud over Vladimir Putin’s annual international economic forum in St Petersburg earlier in June.

The event, once seen as Russia’s answer to the World Economic Forum in Davos, traditionally brings together foreign investors and members of Russia’s political and business elites.

This year only a handful of Western representatives were in attendance, including controversial figures such as right-wing influencer Candace Owens.

The BBC’s Russia Editor, Steve Rosenberg, reports from inside the forum as the effects of Ukraine’s drone attacks and Russia’s strained war economy are already being felt.
