Ukraine war: What is the way ahead for war crime investigations? – BBC Newsnight
As more Russian missiles hit Ukrainian towns and cities, investigations are underway to see if they amount to war crimes.
A lot of attention has been focussed on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the possibility of creating a special tribunal to prosecute any alleged transgressions.
Newsnight’s Diplomatic Editor Mark Urban examines the vexed issue of prosecuting war crimes and the effect this will have on a lasting peace.

Net migration to the UK fell to 171,000 in 2025, new figures show – the lowest level since 2012, excluding the Covid pandemic
The figure reached a peak of 944,000 in the year to March 2023, but has been falling.
The Office for National Statistics said the main reason behind the fall last year was a drop in non-EU nationals arriving for “work-related reasons”, which was down 47%.
However, the decrease in net migration is “likely to be temporary”, the Migration Observatory said, as “lower immigration will eventually feed through into lower emigration”.

Air France and Airbus have been found guilty of corporate manslaughter over a plane crash in 2009, which killed all 228 people onboard. Flight AF447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed into the Atlantic Ocean during a storm.
A court had previously cleared both companies of criminal liability in 2023. But on Thursday, the Paris Appeals Court found the airline and aircraft manufacturer were “solely and entirely responsible”, after an eight-week trial.
A group representing families of the victims said the justice system had finally recognised the pain for relatives facing ”a collective tragedy of unbearable brutality”.
Both Air France and Airbus have denied the charges and say they will appeal.
Our international business correspondent Theo Leggett tells us this case could set a precedent for determining criminal liability in future aviation disasters.

BBC propaganda . Say they are impartial but they don't know the meaning of the word.
Ukraine has been committing war crimes since 2014. Shelling schools and hospitals and using petal bombs in Donetsk.
Recently they said a Russian bomb hit a Building in Donetsk but an independent reporter who was there shows it was the Ukraine that sent the bomb. He was actually at the building.
How can the BEEB support such a corrupt nation as Ukraine?

❗️American journalist Deborah Armstrong known for her objective coverage of human rights violations in Donbass by Ukrainian government, support of Faina Savenkova and crusade against the infamous Mirotvorets website, has reported a first success – UNICEF appears to have finally taken the additional step of making an actual statement to Ukraine, asking Kiev to take action to remove the names of minors from Mirotvorets.
As reported by RIA Novosti on December 7, 2022, UNICEF’s statement came following a UN Security Council Meeting on Tuesday in which Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya spoke about the 327 children whose names have been added to the notorious database. Nebenzya asked what UNICEF was doing about this and what the organization’s position was on the publication of children’s personal data on the internet.
For years, young Faina and others targeted by Mirotvorets have appealed to international human rights groups such as The Red Cross, UNICEF and other but all they have received in response was silence, or platitudes.
The notorious Mirotvorets database discloses the private data of those it targets such as their home addresses, phone numbers and other personal information. It includes the names of more than 100,000 people including hundreds of children like Faina Savenkova, a 14-year-old from Lugansk who was added to the hitlist after speaking before a UN Security Council at the age of 12. The youngest child added to the list is only 9 years old.

International Criminal Courts must be recognized by the concerned parts to be legally able to prosecute. The US does not recognize ANY international court. It has even passed a law that allows the invasion of Holland if American citizens are to be tried at the Hague Tribunal. Russia would not admit the jurisdiction of an international court,so all this is just political propaganda.
And no comment about the police in charge of imprisoning Putin in Moscow. Good luck with that.

Mikhail Gorbachev was assured that there would be no expansion of the military bloc to the East. German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher said in his speech that "NATO should abandon the expansion of its territory to the East, that is, approaching the borders of the Soviet Union." There is a recording of a conversation in 1990 between Secretary of State James Baker and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze in Moscow. The last prisoner came out shooting so the Ukrainians shot back killing the lot of them me personally wouldn't be taken Russian prisoners after all they invaded Ukraine killing innocent citizens I wish all Russians the best of bad luck.
