Coronavirus: with 3 more cases confirmed how prepared is the UK? – BBC News
Three more people have tested positive in the UK for coronavirus – with Northern Ireland confirming its first case tonight. All of them were infected after travelling to Italy or Tenerife. They’re now being treated at specialist NHS infection centres.
To date more than seven and a half thousand people in the UK have been tested for the virus 16 were positive. Eight of them have now been discharged from hospital. But with more cases expected to emerge, the Government is set to launch a new public health campaign.
Fears about the impact the virus could have on the global economy has caused markets to plunge today. We hear about the reaction from Wall Street
Coronavirus has now spread to 50 countries and reached every continent except Antarctica. Worldwide, there have been more than 82 thousand cases and two thousand eight hundred deaths – almost all of them in Hubei in China, the province where the outbreak began. Iran closes Strait of Hormuz, accusing US and Israel of violating ceasefire deal | BBC News
Iran has said it is closing the Strait of Hormuz and accuses the US and Israel of violating the ceasefire deal, after Israel continued strikes on Lebanon.
The news comes as roughly two dozen people were reportedly killed by Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, less than 24 hours after a new ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei says his country’s attendance at talks in Switzerland will be aimed at “demanding that the other side fulfil its commitments”.
US Vice-President JD Vance tells Fox News that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open, after being asked about reporting in the Wall Street Journal suggesting the Iranian navy were turning away ships.

Keir Starmer has resigned as Prime Minister.
Speaking outside number 10 on Monday morning the prime minister said he accepted that his party does not believe he is best placed to lead the country at the next general election. In an emotional speech he also thanked his wife and said he wanted to be the “best dad I can to my beautiful children”.
Meanwhile, Andy Burnham has arrived in Westminster to be sworn in as the new MP for Makerfield. Burnham has confirmed he’ll stand to replace Starmer, and is currently the only candidate after Wes Streeting announced he was now backing Burnham.

Something doesn't add up. Just how bad is the coronavirus??
The media is doing their usual thing, where they dial up the hysteria as much as possible. If you listen to them, we're staring down the barrel of an unprecedented catastrophe. They're throwing around "PANDEMIC!" like it's going out of style.
But the official numbers paint a far less calamitous picture. In a nation of literal billions, just over 1000 people have died. The symptoms seem akin to the flu, and nearly all the casualties are either elderly or already in poor health.
China already has tons of air pollution. And they're packed in like sardines. So it makes sense that a virus that presents as a respiratory illness would be uniquely deadly there.
But that doesn't mean it's a major threat to the rest of the world.
In fact, so far, the virus has had little impact outside of China.
However, China is responding to the virus like it's much worse than the flu. They've locked down tens–maybe even hundreds–of millions of people. They've built extra hospitals almost overnight.
Entire supply chains are down. United Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta have all suspended all air travel to China through the end of April.
That doesn't seem like a reasonable response compared to the official numbers that have been released so far.
So why is the media dialing up the hysteria while uncritically passing along the (relatively mild) official numbers? If it's as bad as they say it is, where's the evidence?
Someone is lying. And probably multiple someones. That means someone is trying to get you to do something you wouldn't otherwise want to do.
