How tear gas became the go-to weapon for US police – BBC News
The riot control agent, often referred to as “tear gas”, has been used in 100 US cities since late May.
While it was banned from war a century ago, it remains a vital police tool around the world.
Some US law enforcement agencies said they used other gases like pepper spray to disperse protesters.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines tear gas as “chemical compounds that temporarily make people unable to function by causing irritation to the eyes, mouth, throat, lungs, and skin.”

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News
Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News
A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.
Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.
At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.
So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?
AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.

No surprise that a police force armed with military vehicles and weapons would use a chemical weapon from WWI on it's citizens. Next it will be military AI and drones. Another great reason to defund the police.

I am a 65 year old retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant (1972-1993). The reporter who wrote this story obviously doesn't know the full story of "tear gas" and its history, types, and uses. It comes in several different forms with some types being much stronger then others. In the military a much stronger form is used and in higher concentrations for tactical use. In civilian riot control a weaker version, called CS, is usually used which is much less toxic and in lower concentrations. In riot control it all often comes down to which would you prefer, blood shed or tear gas? The choice is really that stark at times. Tear gas isn't nice, and I can attest to that having experienced it myself, but it beats having to physically club someone or shoot them in order to restore order when the mob is rioting, looting and out of control. For a more balanced look at tear gas, and more information on it, see this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tear_gas

China's President Xi Jinping this morning signed the new security rules into law, widely seen as aiming to criminalize anti-regime statements and protests such as those gathering mass support in 2014 and again in 2019, now punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Im sure this will be taken down but fuck it, Direct question to the BBC goons that read these feeds. What do you think will happen if the people you are holding up in your news reports actually win this fucked up scenario? I can tell you. Your reporters and news readers will be in the position of the majority. EXPOSED, the SJW of this world are watching and laughing at you knowing that what ever your hidden agenda is it, you wont be able to present it as the bbc will not be around, you think by pushing these biased reports will help you in the long run? They will cut you off. If the BBC knew anything (which they clearly dont) about the people they would stop promoting the unjust and support the mass who are funding them (Which by all accounts is becoming a very small number). Be careful what you wish for.

Fake news. There are a number of safe guards used in the deployment of tear gas. It is not the first thing that is used. It is usually the last thing used after everything else has not worked. The agent used by US law enforcement was never used in warfare. Othoclorobenzalmalonitrile was born from Lewisite. The L50 for US tear gas is much higher than military grade “Tear Gas”, agents. I would think the BBC would do a little home work before putting out such a slanted piece of fake news.

AmeriKKKan police don't get 'how' to police. It's all 0 – 60 in a heartbeat. Police in the US kill 1,500 persons and hospitalize 55,000 more PER YEAR. And it's all based on THEIR perception of your capitulation or resistance. This alone says they should be 'asking for directions'. Nobody in the western democratic world does this or feels they should.
