Opening of Hindu temple in Ayodhya stirs bitter memories for India’s muslims | BBC News
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fulfilling a promise to Hindu nationalists with the opening of a vast new temple in the northern city of Ayodhya.
But for India’s Muslims it evokes bitter memories of sectarian violence and bloodshed. More than 30 years ago Hindu rioters pulled down the historic mosque that had stood on the site in Ayodhya.
In the violence that spread across India thousands of people lost their lives. It marked a turning point in independent India’s transformation from a secular state, with the rise of militant Hindu nationalism.
The opening of the new temple by Mr Modi marks the start of his re-election campaign, as he appeals to India’s Hindu majority to back him for a third term in office.

Prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy campaigner Joshua Wong has pleaded guilty to collusion with foreign entities, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison under Beijing’s sweeping National Security Law (NSL).
The 29-year-old, who has become the poster child for political activism in Hong Kong, is already serving a sentence of four years and eight months after being convicted of subversion – another NSL violation – in late 2024.
The court said Wong would be sentenced at a later date. His earlier jail term is due to end early next year.
Wong was at the forefront of the Umbrella Movement in 2014 and massive pro-democracy protests in 2019.
The latest charge accuses Wong of conspiring with other campaigners, including exiled activist Nathan Law, to ask foreign countries and entities outside China to impose sanctions or blockades against Beijing.

Iran and the US have traded strikes after American forces attacked two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US strike is the first known attack on Iran since President Donald Trump paused a renewed military campaign in late July.
Iran said it had struck US military bases in Jordan in response, with Jordan’s army saying it had intercepted eight missiles early on Monday morning.
Iran’s state TV also said the Iranian army had targeted an air base in the UAE with drones, however, the UAE’s Ministry of Defence denied the reports that Al-Minhad Air Base had been targeted as “unfounded”. The UAE did confirm it shot down a drone.

I don't understand why the BBC only presents partial information about the ongoing religious divisions between Muslims and Hindus in India, which originated from the actions of British colonizers and white supremacists years ago and still today. The Babri Mosque was constructed by Mughal commander Mir Baqi during the reign of the first Mughal king, Babur and before that, stood a Hindu temple on the same land that was forcibly demolished. All the evidence was presented to the Supreme Court in India, and a decision was reached. I believe disagreement with this decision implies a lack of trust in the Indian judicial system and this one sided narrative seems to reflect a extreme Marxist perspective.

The Babri Masjid that was torn down was built on a Hindu temple that was demolished by Babar to build the mosque. This was proven in a SC case wherein remains of Hindu temple were shown. So how can you justify mosques built on other people's temples or churches.

I can feel sympathy for the predicament of the modern Indian Muslims,
but the fact remains: the original Hindu temple was destroyed by ancient Muslims centuries ago, and a mosque built on its ruins.
If you don't like people knocking down your mosques, don't build them on other people's holy sites.
