Ukraine war: Hospital destroyed by Russian missile attack – BBC News
At least two people have been killed and 23 injured in a missile strike on a medical clinic in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro, the regional governor says.
Of the 23 injured, 21 are in hospital and three are in a serious condition.
Ukrainian authorities said they shot down 17 missiles and 31 drones launched from Russia overnight.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

(di Antonio Socci su Libero del 15/01/2012) Il dissidente russo Bukovsky lo aveva predetto: “Un mostro come l’Urss guidato da burocrati autoeletti e fondato sulle minacce finanziarie”. Eravamo da sempre il Paese più europeista. Fino a un anno fa. In dodici mesi la fiducia degli italiani nell’Unione europea è precipitata. Secondo l’ultimo rilevamento dell’Ipsos ha perso addirittura 21 punti percentuali (passando dal 74 per cento al 53). Un crollo che dovrebbe far riflettere i politici e soprattutto le tecnocrazie europee a cui gli italiani sono sempre più ostili. Anche perché il crollo della fiducia degli italiani non è un fatto emotivo passeggero, né uno stato d’animo superficiale. Al contrario. Il loro europeismo era a prova di bomba.
Hanno accettato di fare sacrifici per entrare nella moneta unica, hanno accettato perfino di farsi spennare da un cambio lira/euro estremamente penalizzante e poi hanno subito – senza fiatare – il sostanziale raddoppio di tutti i prezzi con l’inizio dell’euro (un impoverimento di massa). La loro fiducia è crollata solo davanti alla scoperta che la sospirata moneta unica – che tanto ci era costata – realizzata in quel modo (senza una banca centrale e un governo come referenti ultimi) era una trovata assurda e fallimentare di tecnocrazie incompetenti e arroganti. Grazie a questo incredibile esperimento, l’Italia – un Paese solvibilissimo e che ha la sesta economia del pianeta – sta ora rischiando il fallimento (del tutto ingiustificato visti i suoi fondamentali).
LA PROFEZIA
Quello che gli italiani ignorano è che tale disastro era stato previsto. E pure che la china antidemocratica che l’Ue sta imboccando da venti anni a questa parte era evidente ed era stata denunciata. L’affievolimento della democrazia e dei diritti individuali, la dittatura del «politically correct», è qualcosa a cui purtroppo facciamo meno caso – come si vede in queste settimane in Italia – ma è perfino più grave del fallimento politico ed economico della Ue.
Una delle voci nel deserto che videro in anticipo è quella di un eroico dissidente russo, Vladimir Bukovsky, uno così temerario e indomabile che già a venti anni era inviso al regime comunista sovietico il quale lo rinchiuse nei manicomi politici e nel gulag, torturandolo (infine – pur di disfarsene – lo cacciò via nel 1976 in cambio della liberazione in Cile del leader comunista Luis Corvalan). Ebbene, Bukovsky, in una conferenza nell’ottobre del 2000, riportata di recente su Italia oggi, se n’era uscito con affermazioni che sembrarono allora esagerate, che forse lo sono, ma che – alla luce degli ultimi eventi – rischiano di essere semplicemente profetiche.
Non mi riferisco solo a eventi come il commissariamento dell’Italia e della Grecia e il tentato commissariamento (in corso) dell’Ungheria, ma anche alle cessioni di sovranità dei diversi stati mai sottoposte ai referendum popolari o alle bocciature di tali cessioni (nei referendum o nei parlamenti) che sono state sostanzialmente ignorate. «Per quasi 50 anni», disse Bukovsky «abbiamo vissuto un grande pericolo sotto l’Unione Sovietica, un paese aggressore che voleva imporre il suo modello politico a tutto il mondo.
Diverse volte nella mia vita ho visto per puro miracolo sventare il sogno dell’Urss. Poi abbiamo visto la bestia contorcersi e morire davanti ai nostri occhi. Ma invece di esserne felici, siamo andati a crearci un altro mostro. Questo nuovo mostro è straordinariamente simile a quello che abbiamo appena seppellito». Si riferiva all’Unione europea. Argomentava: «Chi governava l’Urss? Quindici persone, non elette, che si sceglievano fra di loro. Chi governa l’Ue? Venti persone non elette che si scelgono fra di loro».
Bisogna riconoscere che oggi abbiamo addirittura governi non eletti (come quello italiano) con un programma dettato dalla Bce.
Diceva ancora Bukovsky: «Come fu creata l’Urss? Soprattutto con la forza militare, ma anche costringendo le repubbliche a unirsi con la minaccia finanziaria, facendo loro paura economicamente. Per la politica ufficiale dell’Urss le nazioni non esistevano, esistevano solo i “cittadini sovietici”. L’Ue non vuole le nazioni, vuole solo i cosiddetti “europei”. In teoria, ogni repubblica dell’Urss aveva il diritto di secessione. In pratica, non esisteva alcuna procedura che consentisse di uscirne. Nessuno ha mai detto che non si può uscire dall’Europa. Ma se qualcuno dovesse cercare di uscirne, troverà che non è prevista nessuna procedura».
Bukovsky arrivava fino a giudizi pesantissimi, sicuramente esagerati, ma chi ha subito ciò che lui ha subito in difesa della libertà di coscienza ha tutto il diritto di essere ipersensibile a ogni violazione della libertà di pensiero e dei diritti individuali: «L’Urss aveva i gulag. L’Ue» aggiungeva Bukovsky «non ha dei gulag che si vedono, non c’è una persecuzione tangibile. Ma nonostante l’ideologia della sinistra di oggi sia “soft”, l’effetto è lo stesso: ci sono i gulag intellettuali. Gli oppositori sono completamente isolati e marchiati come degli intoccabili sociali. Sono messi a tacere, gli si impedisce di pubblicare, di fare carriera universitaria ecc. Questo è il loro modo di trattare con i dissidenti».
Un’esagerazione certamente, ma è la sua stessa vicenda personale a far riflettere sulla libertà del pensiero e della cultura in Europa occidentale. Quanti in Italia conoscono Vladimir Bukovsky, il leggendario dissidente, l’eroico difensore della libertà di coscienza? Eravamo pochissimi isolati che nei primi anni Sessanta ne seguivamo le peripezie (nei manicomi politici e nei lager): i miei coetanei – specie quelli che oggi pontificano dai giornali come giornalisti, opinionisti e intellettuali – avevano come loro mito i vari Mao, Fidel Castro e perfino Stalin. Oggi molti di loro – dopo essersi autoassolti – impartiscono lezioni di liberaldemocrazia dai mass media, ma senza mai aver fatto un vera «mea culpa», infatti continuano a cantare in coro. E continuano ad avere in gran dispetto le voci libere come Bukovsky.
AUTOASSOLUZIONI
Il motivo semplice. Perché mette sotto accusa le élite culturali europee (e anche quelle politiche). Perché è un uomo che – dopo aver sfidato il Kgb e la cappa di piombo del regime sovietico – ha sfidato la cappa di piombo del conformismo «politically correct» occidentale. È uno che nei suoi libri scrive: «Il comunismo è una malattia della cultura e dell’intelletto… Le élite occidentali penso non capissero l’universalità di quel male, la sua natura internazionale e quindi il carattere universale della sua pericolosità».
La sua ha continuato ad essere una voce scomoda e isolata perché – dopo il crollo delle feroci nomenclature comuniste – non ha chiesto vendetta, ma ha pure rifiutato che si autoassolvessero e restassero al potere. Ha scritto in un suo libro: «Noi siamo pronti a perdonare i colpevoli, ma loro non devono assolversi da sé». È chiaro perché uno così, in un paese come l’Italia, è sconosciuto e continua ad essere una voce silenziata. Infatti quante volte è stato fatto parlare in tv o sui giornali italiani?
Parla in Gran Bretagna, in America… Ma in Italia è una voce silenziata. Quali case editrici hanno pubblicato i suoi libri? Prendiamo il volume che ha scritto, dopo il crollo dell’Urss, quando poté tornare a Mosca e pubblicare i documenti degli archivi del Cremlino: chi ha tradotto quel libro in Italia? La piccolissima editrice Spirali. Infatti «Gli archivi segreti di Mosca» è pressoché sconosciuto e ben pochi ne han parlato sui giornali. Eppure riguardava anche noi italiani.
Voci profetiche come quella di Bukovsky devono far riflettere soprattutto in un Paese come il nostro dove ha sempre scarseggiato la sensibilità per i diritti dell’individuo e ha sempre abbondato il conformismo culturale, la prevaricazione delle nomenklature e quella dello stato. L’allarme del dissidente russo sull’Europa ci riguarda e ci deve far riflettere. Oggi più che mai. Ma ancora una volta sono poche le voci che sono sensibili all’allarme sulla libertà.

Russians have to be stopped no matter what, this is the same situation that people had before WW2. If we will keep toying with the aggressor and hesitate with supporting the victim, sooner or later this war will spill out all over Europe. Putin and his murderers will only stop if he will be stopped by someone. In my opinion providing as much military aid as we can for Ukraine is the only reasonable way to end this war wtih Ukraine victorious.
