Political Clowns – Ontario Spending 300% More On Temporary Nurses

Staffing agencies were a big help to hospitals during the Co Vid 19 pandemic health crisis. They helped pump up the number of available nurses to complement the rising numbers of patients infected with the virus at that time. Everything was going well and smoothly until Trudeau came in with his vaccine mandates that prevented unvaccinated health care workers from doing their job which was to ensure that patients infected with the virus recovered as soon as possible.
An effect of Trudeau’s mandates was that these unvaccinated health professionals were indefinitely suspended from the hospitals in which they worked, thereby depleting the number of medical professionals in hospitals at a period when the country needed every single one of them. To make up for their losses, hospitals leaned more on these staffing agencies that offered temporary nurses. They thought they were being wise by doing so.
But the current situation in the health sector shows that these hospitals had simply done themselves more harm than good in turning to staff agencies, and Trudeau has once again harmed the country’s already shaky economy. Let’s use Ontario as a case study since they form some part of the basis of this news. According to the University Health Network which is the largest health network in Canada, the province of Ontario has spent 6.7 million dollars on temporary nurses between the fiscal year of March 20 21 and 20 22.
And of course, you don’t think such an amount of money came from the hospitals and not the provincial government in Ontario? We are talking about 6.7 million dollars of taxpayers’ money going to these private, temporary staffing agencies. What makes it the more saddening is the fact that in the end, Trudeau had to suspend the vaccine mandates, meaning that those who were unvaccinated and suspended as a consequence could get back to work. So why did he put it in the first place? Anyways, the damage has already been done and now those who were unjustly suspended are demanding compensation, and they have every right to do so.

Hospital workers,, we are suffering,, while hospitals management, ceo, supervisor,, non unionize employee,, have it good and receive salary rise ,, some up 40%during COVID… Sad the money go to the less deserve, in Ontario.. thanks Ford and Trudeau and some ceo.. who need to show off for parlement instead the real employees

Temporary nurses where a problem before Covid hit. A disproportionate amount of nurses would prefer to work Temp and part time for higher amount of money than work full time. This is why health care needs to be audited because it is horribly inefficient and the province dumps more money at it to be more inefficient.

My sister in a RPN in Ontario managing a Hospice. She is the lowest paid manager. Work 18 hrs a day. Sometimes staying 36 hrs in a row due to no staff. Agency nurses making 4x her hourly rate. She doesn’t qualify for overtime because she is “management”. Doesn’t qualify for nursing bonus because she is “management” yet most of her time is spent in bedside care. Upper management unable to provide bedside care as they are not qualified. Also, nurses that didn’t get vaccinated initially were considered terminated and now can’t be rehired even through they decided to get vaccinated – this is according to this health region policy. Not sure what other health regions are doing.

This is insane. The temporary nurses being paid the higher salaries should be prepared to work in a very unpleasant toxic working environment. You do not have to have a physiology degree to know that the human reaction to decisions of this nature always rear negative consequences. One can only imagine the effect that this will have on a hospital’s nursing hiring practices. What nurse would want to work variably scheduled work shifts based on seniority, deal with confrontational superiors, pay union fees, suffer from physical burnouts; all the while knowing a temporary nurse is
standing next to them and earning higher salaries? This type of irrational decision making will hurt the health system more than help, as you can be sure that many permanent nurses will choose to work temporarily for more pay and greater autonomy. How will this help the current nursing shortage?

Can you imagine how badly they would manage a universal basic income? Govt can’t manage their way out of a paper bag. Just hire back the nurses that never should have been fired in the first place. Liberals govt are absolutely corrupt and disgusting! We need a regime change.
